Xpeng: 17 million kilometer endurance test 🎥
HARD TO BELIEVE Chinese manufacturer Xpeng's electric cars covered more than 17 million kilometers during China's New Year holiday. One million kilometers last month even autonomously. People of Chinese descent travel around the world to celebrate the New Year with their families. Within China, hundreds of millions of people travel from coastal cities to their villages in the hinterland.
The ultimate stress test for any traffic system. This is exactly the time period Xpeng had chosen for its electric cars to demonstrate its autonomous driving system Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP) in practice.
Reduction of 1086 tons of carbon dioxide
The NGP has been available to selected customers of the P7 model since January and is based on high-precision maps. In the 25 days that followed, the NGP steered Xpeng's cars along China's highways. The Chinese New Year was in the middle of this period.
In the period from February 11 to 17, the electric vehicles covered a total of 17 million kilometers, according to the manufacturer. That's a record. That's about 431 laps around the equator. The energy consumed in the process of more than three million kilowatt hours (kWh) corresponds to a reduction of 1086 tons of carbon dioxide.
According to Xpeng, 882,724 kWh were recovered through recuperation in the process, equivalent to about 5.23 million additional kilometers.
Beneath the P7's streamlined, 4.90-meter-long body is Xpeng's Smart Electric Platform Architecture.
In 25 days 131 484 automatic lane changes
The Xpilot 3.0 operating system, on which the NGP is based, was used for 25,326 hours during this time. It is able to automatically overtake, change lanes or drive up or down from the highway.
In the first 25 days, 131,484 automatic lane changes and overtaking were counted and 105,942 automatic on and off ramps. Most of the functions in the car can be controlled by voice.
Norway is the first European export country
Xpeng expanded to Norway in December and plans to enter other European markets in the near future. In Europe, however, statistics on the same scale as in China are unlikely for data protection reasons. A pity, actually.
