World premiere in Shanghai: VW I.D. CROZZ
With the world premiere of the VW I.D. CROZZ as a study of an all-electric "crossover" at the "Auto Shanghai 2017" trade fair (April 19-29), Volkswagen is providing an important preview of the new protagonists of electromobility. According to the manufacturer, this model combines the dynamics of a coupe with the sovereignty of an SUV. With a range of 500 kilometers, all-wheel drive and autopilot mode, the zero-emission study is scheduled to enter production in 2020 as a member of a new generation of Volkswagen electric vehicles.
Key role planned
Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand: "We want to increase sales of pure electric vehicles to one million units per year by 2025. The I.D. CROZZ will play a key role in this."
New generation
The four-door vehicle is the brand's first electrically powered crossover utility vehicle (CUV), a coupe and sports utility vehicle (SUV) at the same time. Following the premieres of the I.D. (Paris 2016) and I.D. BUZZ (Detroit 2017), the I.D. CROZZ is the third member of the I.D. family. The vehicle is an interactively designed zero-emission all-rounder whose electric all-wheel drive is just as convincing in the "urban jungle" as it is on the slopes of a sporty, committed life. The 180 km/h, 306 hp/225 kW CROZZ can cover up to 500 kilometers (NEDC) on one battery charge. In 30 minutes, the battery recovers 80 percent of its energy capacity via the fast charging system (at 150 kW DC). If the driver touches the VW symbol in the steering wheel for three seconds, the study switches to the fully autonomous mode "I.D. Pilot" - the CROZZ is now driving in autopilot.
Everything digital
All display and control elements of the study are digital. The most important information for the driver is projected into his field of vision. Gesture control is becoming increasingly important. Even the newly developed light blinds in the transparent panoramic roof are activated by gesture control. A new CleanAir system guarantees good air quality on board, regardless of outside conditions.
DNA of electromobility
The Zero Emission design of the I.D. CROZZ shows its DNA of electric mobility. One of the dominant visual features is the light signature. The lighting elements - C-shaped LED daytime running lights and variably controllable LED headlights - merge to form a front section with electronic, moving "eyes" ("Interactive Spotlight"). In "I.D. Pilot" mode, these "eyes" communicate with other road users.
Electric drive defines the space
The I.D. CROZZ is more compact than Volkswagen's latest series-production SUV, the New Tiguan L (China), or Tiguan Allspace (Europe). And yet the CUV offers just as much space. The axle and drive modules move far to the outside and are very compact. The battery is fully integrated in the vehicle floor. The seat configuration offers a high degree of variability. The result is an optimally usable space - a generous, newly designed "open space" that goes beyond the limits of its class.
