VW T-Roc: Lifestyle SUV for the City

VOLKSWAGEN In December, Volkswagen's SUV family will have a chic new addition. For those who find the Golf too boring, the T-Roc is a real alternative. The 4.23-meter city SUV is based on the same MQB Group platform, but has a much cooler appearance. Some time after the competitors from Renault (Captur), Peugeot (2008), Kia (Stonic), Hyundai (Kona) and Opel (Crossland [...]

The VW T-Roc shows sporty proportions, which are characterized by the bi-color look and the coupe-like roofline.

Some time after the competitors from Renault (Captur), Peugeot (2008), Kia (Stonic), Hyundai (Kona) and Opel (Crossland X), VW is following suit with its first compact SUV. Sales of the T-Roc have already started. The first vehicles will roll into showrooms in December.

Engine range from 115 to 190 hp

In terms of technology and safety, the Wolfsburg-based company is storming straight to the top with its city SUV. The T-Roc rocks the segment. At the start, the engine range includes three gasoline engines from 115 to 190 hp and a diesel with 150 hp. The 190-hp gasoline engine comes standard with 4Motion all-wheel drive and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The same applies to the 150-hp diesel. From February 2018, two more TDI engines will be available with 115 hp (front-wheel drive) and 190 hp (all-wheel drive and DSG). And finally, the 1.5 TSI with 150 hp, cylinder deactivation, 4Motion and 7-speed DSG will follow in June 2018.

Young generation in focus

The two-liter turbo gasoline engine left the most convincing impression on our first test drives. This is also because it realizes the maximum torque of 320 Nm already at 1500 rpm. Together with the rather comfortably tuned chassis and the pleasantly direct steering, at least in Sport mode, this results in a strong overall package.

With the T-Roc, VW has primarily set its sights on the young generation, which cultivates a lifestyle and likes to transfer this to the vehicle. There are two equipment lines (Style and Sport) and various interior and trim colors.

Lots of safety and comfort ex works

The most extensive standard equipment (T-Roc Sport) includes sport comfort seats, LED headlights, the Active Info Display, heated front seats and a heated multifunction leather steering wheel. The T-Roc also offers very decent space, both in the trunk (445 to 1290 liters) and on the comfortable rear seats. The only negative thing we noticed was the unfavorable hard plastic cover of the dashboard. This could definitely have been done better.

Prices for the VW T-Roc start at 24,900 francs for the 1.0-liter entry-level gasoline engine with three cylinders and 115 hp. All-wheel drive is currently available from 37,250 francs (2.0 TDI, 150 hp, 6-speed manual). The 7-speed DSG costs an extra 2,400 francs.
