With its expressive design, innovative operating, comfort and safety systems and the high quality of its materials and finish, the new flagship occupies a leading position in the luxury SUV segment.
Premiere of the Innovision Cockpit
Volkswagen is presenting the fully digitalized Innovision Cockpit for the first time in the new Touareg. The digital instruments (Digital Cockpit with 12-inch display) and the top infotainment system Discover Premium (with 15-inch display) merge to form a digital control, information, communication and entertainment unit that requires virtually no conventional buttons or switches.
Using the Innovision Cockpit, the driver also adjusts the assistance, driving dynamics and comfort systems to his own personal taste - he thus personalizes "his" Touareg.
It also boasts the widest range of assistance, driving dynamics and comfort systems ever integrated into a Volkswagen. These include technologies such as Nightvision night vision support, Traffic Jam and Roadworks Assist, Junction Assist, active all-wheel steering and the new roll stabilization system with electromechanically controlled stabilizers.
New dimensions and reduced weight
The third generation of the Touareg has become moderately wider and longer than its predecessor. The new dimensions have a positive effect on both the proportions and the interior space.
The increase in exterior length, for example, allows the trunk volume to be significantly increased from 697 to 810 liters (rear seats up). Despite the increased length and width, the body, which is made from a mix of aluminum (48 percent) and high-tech steel (52 percent), is 106 kg lighter than its predecessor.
Launch with two V6 diesel engines
Volkswagen will initially offer the new Touareg 2018 in Europe, and therefore also in Switzerland, with two V6 diesel engines with 231 and 286 PS. A V6 petrol engine (340 PS) and a V8 turbodiesel (421 PS) will also follow.
A new plug-in hybrid drive (367 PS system output) is being prepared for China. Its exact launch date in Europe is currently still open.
