VW ID.7 Tourer GTX: Made for Switzerland

The ID.7 is the highlight of Volkswagen's electric range. As the Tourer GTX, it is now what it should have been from the start.

The VW Passat is a perennial favorite: the mid-range model has sold well over 30 million units since its launch in 1973. No wonder that many have been calling for an electric version of this model. The Wolfsburg-based company introduced one last year in the form of the ID.7, but initially only as a rear-wheel-drive saloon - but nobody was waiting for this in the all-wheel-drive-crazy country of Switzerland.

In February, VW then added the Tourer and thus the important estate version, which offers a large cargo space of up to 1586 liters for just 800 francs extra. And now, finally, the ID.7 Tourer GTX is available at dealerships in the configuration that VW should have offered from the outset: an estate with all-wheel drive, a large battery and plenty of power. Thanks to an additional electric motor on the front axle, 250 kW/340 hp is now available - enabling the car to accelerate to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. And the GTX is also stronger and faster when charging: it draws up to 200 kW from the DC column, while the base model "only" manages 175 kW.

Since February, the VW ID.7 has finally been available as a spacious estate version with up to 1586 liters of storage space.

Mission accomplished The top model has also increased its battery size. Thanks to 86 kWh, the GTX now has a standard range of 594 kilometers as a sedan and 583 kilometers as a tourer. This large battery is now also available in the rear-wheel drive base version, which, as the ID.7 Pro S, should now be able to travel over 700 kilometers on a single charge - as originally promised by VW for this model series.

The GTX also comes with an augmented reality head-up display in the cockpit.

Above all, however, the ID.7 Tourer GTX now drives much more confidently than before thanks to its all-wheel drive. The 4.9-meter-long business vehicle rolls better, accelerates powerfully out of corners and feels more upmarket overall. The VW ID.7 is now finally what it should have been from the outset. Prices for the ID.7 GTX start at 76900 Swiss francs.
