From automotive dwarf to all-rounder
FORD FIESTA The Cologne-based company is sending the eighth generation of the model series into the race - as top driving dynamics as ever, but bigger, more refined and with state-of-the-art technology all round. The first generation was born 41 years ago as an automobile dwarf and has now become an all-rounder. At 4.04 meters in length, the Fiesta surpasses its predecessor by [...]
At 4.04 meters, the Fiesta is seven centimeters longer than its predecessor, leaving its 1976 predecessor behind with an increase of around half a meter. Time passes so quickly. And why did the Fiesta have to grow again? Quite simply because the Ka+, which was launched in fall 2016, has come so close with its dimensions that the respect gap to its little brother had to be restored.
Assistance systems like in the luxury class
However, the true size of the Fiesta cannot be determined by these figures. Because in the small car class, it sets the bar high with its equipment variants. Even the basic Trend version comes with a lane departure warning system ex works. Those who want more can order cruise control, high beam assist, traffic sign recognition and drowsiness warning as options with three different driver assistance packages and depending on the equipment. Also on offer are an emergency braking system that detects pedestrians and animals (from 80 centimeters tall) even at night, and a warning system that warns of approaching traffic when reversing out of a parking space.
Depending on your preference, there are gasoline or diesel
At the start of sales, there will be gasoline engines with three or diesel engines with four cylinders. The two 1.1-liter basic gasoline engines with 70 and 85 hp cater to price-conscious customers. The 1.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine is certainly the best choice. Its power range covers three stages: 100, 125 and (for the sporty ST and the classy Vignale from fall 2017) 140 hp. This engine with the sound of a double Vespa offers driving pleasure in its purest form.
EcoBoost gasoline engine with 100 hp becomes the racer
Ford brought the new 140 hp version to the first test, which accelerates the Fiesta to 100 km/h in 9.0 seconds. As with the predecessor, however, the 100-hp EcoBoost gasoline engine is likely to win the race with most customers. In terms of diesel, the Fiesta comes with two 1.5 -liter engines that deliver 85 and 120 hp. The handling has been refined once again: The predecessor's comfort, agility and precise turn-in behavior were already unimpaired, but the new Fiesta now also has a firmer grip on the road and brakes much better.
Rich sound inside with 675 watt system
If you want, you can even enjoy the amazing sound quality of a Bang&Olufsen sound system in your Fiesta. At its heart is the amplifier with digital signal processor, which can be controlled via the touchscreen of the Sync multimedia connectivity system. The B&O Play system has a total output power of 675 watts. To ensure sound quality, engineers listened to more than 5,000 songs over the course of a year - from performers like Adele to the Foo Fighters to Jay-Z. Classical music was also on the test and inspection program.
Sales launch with Trend and Titanium
The cheapest Fiesta is available from 14,500 Swiss francs as a Trend with 70 hp. With the Titanium equipment and 85 hp, 17,300 are due. Only the 1.5 TDCi with 120 hp would be more expensive, starting at 21,500 francs. Somewhat cheaper and basically manual like the diesel is the Ecoboost with 125 hp from 20,000 - in each case as Titanium. The ST-Line and Vignale versions will follow later in the year.
