The Wolfsburg car accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. A newly developed all-wheel drive system helps ensure that the 250 km/h Volkswagen offers agile handling characteristics.
Maximum torque of 420 Nm
The SUV's impressive propulsion is provided by the current generation of the EA888 evo4 unit, an icon of the sporty turbo engines (TSI). The turbo four-cylinder delivers its maximum torque of 420 Nm from just 2100 rpm; the TSI maintains this high level constantly up to 5350 rpm.
Power distribution is handled by the revised 4Motion all-wheel drive with R-Performance Torque Vectoring. For the first time, Volkswagen uses a rear-axle transmission with two multi-plate clutches. It distributes the drive power not only between the front and rear axles, but also continuously between the rear wheels.
Bumper is painted in body color
The sporty genes are not only found in the Tiguan R's turbo engine and all-wheel drive, but also in its equipment.
Take the exterior, for example, where the standard equipment includes R-design bumpers with black or body-color painted elements, exterior mirror caps in matte chrome, a black rear diffuser, black wheel arch extensions and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Sports seats specially developed for the R
Take the interior, for example: The Tiguan R is distinguished from other models in the series by features such as the sports seats with integrated headrests and R logo developed exclusively for this model, a customized digital cockpit with an integrated laptimer, and R-specific decorative inlays.
The decorative inlays are illuminated via ambient lighting. The R logo on the front door sill trims in aluminum is also illuminated. The pedals are made of stainless steel.
18-inch brake system with blue R logo
The extended technical R equipment includes a high-performance 18-inch brake system including blue brake calipers (with blue R logo at the front), a chassis lowered by ten millimeters and an enhanced driving profile selection with the additional R profile.
This sporty mode can be activated via an R button in the multifunction sports steering wheel. It is also equipped with separate, large shift paddles for manual control of the 7-speed DSG. The standard equipment also includes a disengageable ESC and a four-pipe sports exhaust system.
