The T-Cross shows that it wants to be a real SUV. Short overhangs, a high hood, large wheels in prominent wheel arches.
After star guest Cara Delevingne told her 40 million followers at the world premiere of the Volkswagen T-Cross in Amsterdam how overwhelmingly good she thinks the compact is, it takes her almost two minutes and many attempts to move the T-Cross off the stage. In Amsterdam, left-hand drive is the order of the day. That must have irritated the British woman.
The small Wolfsburg offers a lot of space
On the other hand, its 1.71 meter body length gives the Cross a visual advantage that it doesn't need. In terms of centimeters and liters, it offers more space than you would expect from a member of the Polo family. It not only looks big, it is big: at 4.11 meters long, it is 54 millimeters longer and at 1.56 meters high, it is 112 millimeters taller than a Polo. With a luggage compartment that can hold between 385 and 455 liters due to the 140-millimeter sliding rear seat bench and a maximum load volume of just under 1300 liters, it almost belongs in the Golf class.
Good overview for occupants in any situation
Thanks to the raised seating position - the driver and front passenger sit 597 millimeters and the rear passengers 652 millimeters above the road - the occupants in the T-Cross have the overview typical of an SUV. The interior is spacious thanks to the wheelbase and MQB. It can also be flexibly and quickly adapted to different requirements. The interior design with large dashpads that match the color and structure of the seat materials, the steering wheel clasp and the painted center console create a fresh, sporty ambience.
Assistance systems create optimum safety
The T-Cross is equipped as standard with numerous driver assistance systems that were previously reserved for upper vehicle classes. On board are the Front Assist environment monitoring system with pedestrian detection and city emergency braking function, Lane Assist lane departure warning, Hill Start Assist, the Proactive Occupant Protection System, Blind Spot Detection lane change assistant and the combined Parking Assist.
Three gasoline engines and one diesel from 95 to 150 hp
Four turbocharged engines, three gasoline and one diesel, are available for the new T-Cross. The two 1.0 TSI three-cylinder gasoline engines with gasoline particulate filter produce 95 or 115 hp. The top model is the 1.5 TSI four-cylinder with 150 hp, which will follow at a later date. The range is rounded off by a 1.6 TDI four-cylinder with 95 hp. All engines meet the latest Euro6d-Temp or Euro6d Temp-EVAP emissions standard. Swiss pricing had not yet been determined at the time of going to press. Swiss market launch is in April 2019.
