Volkswagen: How the new Touareg drives
THIRD GENRATION With the new Touareg, Volkswagen wants to climb a new level in the SUV hierarchy. For the market launch at the end of June, there will initially be two V6 turbodiesels with 231 or 286 hp. Both drives of the new Euro 6d TEMP emission standard generation, which offers sufficient safety with regard to possible driving bans in cities. Both powertrains of the new Euro 6d TEMP emissions standard generation, which offers sufficient safety with regard to possible driving bans in cities. The V6 TSI gasoline engine with 340 hp will follow in the fall and the V8 diesel with 421 hp and 900 Nm of torque next year. Whether the plug-in hybrid with 367 hp will also find its way to Europe via China has at least not yet been confirmed. All engine versions come with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive as standard. The maximum towing capacity is 3.5 tons, as before. For now, VW is only announcing prices for the two entry-level diesel versions: The 3.0 V6 TDI costs from 69,900 francs with 231 hp or from 80,400 francs with 286 hp.
IQ.Light LED matrix lights with 128 LEDs per headlight
Everything that the VW Group has to offer in the areas of infotainment, connectivity and services, as well as artificial intelligence in display, operation and driving assistance, finds its way into the new Touareg. VW summarizes another important chapter in the term "IQ.Light" ". LED matrix headlights with 128 LEDs per headlight serve as the core: 48 for low beam, 27 for high beam and the remaining 53 for cornering and turning lights, parking lights and the animated turn signal. The driver only has to activate Dynamic Light Assist, and the system takes care of the rest autonomously.
Average consumption of just under seven liters per 100 kilometers
We were able to experience the V6 diesel with 286 hp during the first test drives over around 300 kilometers. The six-cylinder handles the good 2.2 tons (including two people) confidently and quietly. Thanks to its maximum torque of 600 Nm, the Touareg accelerates confidently after tight turns. However, with a short delay. The reason for this is not turbo lag, an expert assured us. Rather, in this driving situation, pollutant emissions are reduced again by an additional cleaning process. According to the NEDC measurement method, the V6 TDI is said to get by with a mixed consumption of just 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers. However, we were primarily impressed by the maneuverability of the large SUV. This is due to the all-wheel steering. At 11.2 meters, the turning circle of the optional air-suspended Touareg is on a par with that of a compact car. One point of criticism: It is a pity that the high-quality interior is devalued in some places with the use of hard plastic trim.
