Advance sales of the new Polo in Switzerland will start as early as the end of May and the market launch will take place in fall 2021.
A total of more than 18 million Polo cars have been built over the past 45 years. According to Volkswagen, a new evolutionary stage of the best-selling small car will roll onto the market in September, differing from its predecessor launched four years ago above all in terms of design and upgraded equipment.
Adoption of elements from other models
The dimensions have hardly changed. Only the length of the new edition has increased slightly to 4.05 meters, while the wheelbase remains the same at 2.56 meters. The front and rear sections have been redesigned to match the Golf, and the bumpers have also been redesigned.
The headlights now bring light into the darkness with LED technology as standard, and IQ Light LED matrix headlights can now also be ordered for an additional charge. The Wolfsburg creative team also took elements from the Golf VIII and Arteon models when designing the Polo. No question about it, the little one is part of the family.
Partially autonomous driving up to 210 km/h
The Wolfsburg developers borrowed from the larger models not only in terms of design. The equipment also takes elements from the higher segments.
For example, the revised Polo can be ordered with IQ Drive Travel Assist. It combines automatic distance control with the lane departure warning system, enabling semi-autonomous driving at speeds of up to 210 km/h for the first time in this segment.
The Polo comes to customers with a whole range of other assistance systems as standard, such as the Front Assist environment monitoring system with city emergency braking function and the Lane Assist lane departure warning system.
Digital cockpit, air conditioning and audio system
Even in the basic version, the center airbag, which prevents the driver and front passenger from colliding, is standard. Also included in the price are the digital cockpit, air conditioning and the Composition Media audio system. The more upscale models add, among other things, a larger display, special rims, and LED matrix headlights, which were used for the first time in the Touareg.
Natural gas drive with a 90 hp engine
Propulsion is provided by a one-liter three-cylinder with 80 hp 95 hp or 110 hp. The 95 hp engine can be combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the automatic is standard on the 110 hp unit. In addition, the Polo will again be available with a 90-hp natural gas engine.
