Volkswagen: First drive with the ID.4 🎥
AND IT'S GOING ON Volkswagen's second electric car after the ID.3, based on the MEB (Modular Electric Drive Toolkit) platform, is a 4.58-meter-long five-seater that offers more space than its sister model in the Golf class. Oliver Bierhoff, DFB Director National Teams and Academy, was on the road with the ID.4 in Munich.
In front of us is the new Volkswagen ID.4, a battery-electric SUV. When accelerating up to 20 km/h, it has to emit an artificially generated driving noise, to a certain extent as pedestrian protection. Better safe than sorry.
We climb in. The doors open wide and there is plenty of legroom in the rear. Even three child seats fit next to each other there, and there is plenty of room for passengers in the back.
Reaches 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds
The five-door car rolls up smoothly, accelerates briskly at the start, then a bit more leisurely from 70 km/h to 100 km/h, which it reaches in 8.5 seconds. Straight ahead it goes up to 160 km/h, then it slows down. An entertaining bonus on loose surfaces: The rear-wheel-drive ID.4 oversteers slightly under load when exiting corners. Wolfsburg has done a good job here.
500 kilometer range and 150 kW power
The preconfigured and well-equipped ID.4 Pro Performance 1st model is available to order now from 53,100 Swiss francs, as is the ID.4 Pro Performance 1st Max model for 63,650 Swiss francs. Further model variants are available on request.
All models have rear-wheel drive, a battery capacity of 77 kWh with a range of up to 500 kilometers and an engine output of 150 kW (204 hp). The entry-level ID.4 Pure model with a range of up to 340 kilometers for around 39,000 Swiss francs will soon be available to order.
Comfortable family car even for long trips
All ID.4 vehicles are equipped with air conditioning systems coupled to heat exchangers. By the way, only the 77 kWh battery can be recharged particularly quickly at 125 kW. A range of 320 kilometers can be achieved in 30 minutes. Volkswagen also supports the use of the comfortable ID.4 as a touring car with a hitch for towing trailers with payloads of up to 1200 kilograms.
Whether a horse trailer will ultimately be carried or a bike rack will be mounted remains to be seen.
