Front-wheel drive is provided by a 2-liter TSI turbo gasoline engine with dual injection system, which now produces 207 hp and thus reaches a top speed of 240 km/h. With maximum torque of 320 Newton meters between 1500 and 4500 rpm, it sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds with the help of the standard 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG).
Standard driving profile selection with five modes
Like every GTI, the four-door model comes standard with a sports suspension that lowers the body by 15 millimeters. A "Sport Select" suspension with switchable dampers and a larger stabilizer bar on the front axle is available as an option. In addition, the standard driving profile selection offers the modes "Eco," "Individual," "Normal" and "Sport.
Illuminated crossbar as daytime running light supplement
The new LED matrix headlights and an illuminated radiator grille crossbar as a daytime running light supplement are also standard. The most striking visual change at the rear is the redesigned LED taillights with animated brake and turn signal lights, which indicate the change of direction with a flowing light movement.
Red contrast stitching and five colors in the program
In addition to a specific bumper, the red GTI logo in the radiator grille, the honeycomb ventilation grilles and the all-round red trim strip above the LED daytime running lights remain the characteristic features of the small car firecracker.
The same applies to the interior, where red contrast stitching in the standard multifunction sports leather steering wheel, on the gearshift lever trim and on the seat outer surfaces are among the typical GTI features. The luggage compartment volume is 351 liters.
The new Polo GTI is available in five colors, three of which can be optionally combined with a contrasting black roof. Swiss prices have not yet been set.
