Developed for the small car segment, the ID Life's powertrain is based on VW's modular e-drive system.
The crossover model with four doors, large tailgate, elevated seating position and variable-use interior is to be called Accelerate as the entry-level model and cost between 22,000 and 27,000 Swiss francs.
The crossover study ID. LIFE is powered purely by battery electricity. At 4.09 meters long, 1.85 meters wide and 1.59 meters high, the smallest member of the family shows inner greatness.
Camera and face recognition software
Its designers have taken full advantage of the crossover body and the electric drive. However, the small car does not allow access to just anyone. A camera and facial recognition software control who is allowed to experience the variable seating landscape in the interior, which can be transformed into a cinema or gaming lounge during charging time, for example.
For this, a screen is moved in front of the windshield from the inside and the seats can be moved into a real lounge position. The fathers of the idea hope that charging the battery will be done far too quickly for many a gamer. If the ride continues, the pleasantly high seating position of the passengers is pleasing and provides a good overview.
Online access to all data of the vehicle
When driving, the person at the wheel experiences a digital operating concept. Cameras and a display replace both the exterior and interior mirrors. A touch control panel can be used to control the turn signal, horn and windshield wiper, among other things.
Navigation, communication and infotainment functions as well as online access to all vehicle data are made possible by the integration of the smartphone, for which inductive charging cradles have been integrated into the door pockets.
High voltage battery with power connection for 230 volts
In total, the ID. LIFE offers up to 1285 liters of storage space. The luggage compartment in the rear holds 225 liters, plus 108 liters underneath the load compartment floor. A further 68-liter compartment can be used under the air-chamber textile cover in the front area.
There is also a volume of around eight liters under a separate front flap to accommodate a charging cable. In addition to the charging connection for the high-voltage battery, there is also a 230-volt (16 A) power connection there, which can be used to operate an electric grill outside the vehicle, for example.

Sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
The front wheels of the ID. LIFE are driven by an electric motor with 172 kW (234 hp). Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes the ID. LIFE takes 6.9 seconds. Its high-voltage battery with an energy content of 57 kWh enables a range of around 400 kilometers according to the WLTP test cycle.
