Toyota's newcomer is called the Yaris Cross and is based on the same small car platform as the Yaris.
Toyota has now unveiled its new B-segment model on the internet. The planned debut at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show was cancelled due to the Corona pandemic.
Optionally with electric all-wheel drive
Under the hood of the Cross is the new hybrid system with 116 hp system output familiar from the Yaris. Electric all-wheel drive is available as an option.
Market trend goes toward smaller SUVs
The pictures (please note the gallery) show that the new model will be more than a jacked-up Yaris variant. The crossover positions itself in the fastest growing segment below the C-HR.
The small SUV, which is around four meters long, will have largely the same footprint as the Yaris subcompact. However, it will be around 40 millimeters higher to allow a higher seating position.
Robust, high ride vehicle
Toyota sees its SUV for the urban target group. The reason: When it comes to driving, city drivers would also increasingly appreciate the robust, highly drivable qualities of this design.
First hybrid system in the B-segment
But it does so in a size tailored to urban roads and with environmental compatibility at the forefront. At the digital world premiere of the Yaris Cross, Toyota emphasizes its world-leading position in hybrid vehicle technology. Now, it says, is the first use of a hybrid system in a B-segment crossover.
Flexibility and active lifestyle
At the same time, buyers of such cars want a vehicle that is distinctive, stylish and has the flexibility they need for an active lifestyle.
Exactly on this target group and their needs Toyota had put the new Yaris Cross on the wheels. The result is something to be proud of.
