The new model joins the RAV4, the C-HR and the upcoming Yaris Cross (AutoSprintCH reported) in completing Toyota's European SUV model lineup.
Trailer load up to two tons
Built on the GA-K platform, the Highlander combines comfort, ease of use and safety with low-emission, efficient hybrid powertrain and intelligent all-wheel drive, with plenty of space and a practical two-ton towing capacity.
Sliding second row of seats
At 4.95 meters long and with striking 20-inch alloys, the Highlander combines the elegant, powerfully refined appearance of a premium SUV with the robustness and durability of a genuine, versatile all-wheel-drive vehicle. The interior presents itself entirely as desired and offers a premium comfort ambience. The Highlander Hybrid is a true 7-seater, with the second-row seats sliding to a length of 180 millimeters.
Communication and security
The premium equipment includes a 12.3-inch multimedia display on the center console, navigation and a head-up display. Also included are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and a swiveling digital rearview mirror with image playback without interference from headrests or rear-seat passengers. In addition, the new Highlander Hybrid is equipped with the latest Toyota Safety Sense - a package of active safety technologies that can avoid or mitigate collisions in many situations.
System power is 244 hp
The fourth-generation full hybrid powertrain combines a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle gasoline engine with electric motors front and rear, with the rear one backing up the AWD-i. This is complemented by a nickel-metal hydride battery placed under the second row of seats. The system output is 244 hp. A drive mode switch allows the choice between Eco, Normal, Sport and Trail. All modes can be selected in the separately adjustable E mode.
Pleasant quietness in the interior
A noise-insulating windshield, sound insulation on the roof, dashboard and vehicle floor, and special linings in the wheel arches and cargo area provide a pleasant level of quiet, further dampening the already quiet operation of the full hybrid powertrain. The Toyota Highlander Hybrid will go on sale in early 2021.
