During the passage of upcoming novelties, the GR 86 was shown publicly on the road for the first time.
The GR 86 follows the example of the GR Supra, which was also presented there in 2018, with its action debut at Goodwood. The GT86 also made an early appearance at Goodwood as a newcomer at the 2012 festival. Third in the bunch is the GR Yaris, which became a bestseller in Switzerland.

Character of the predecessor remains
The new model, in turn, is the result of a collaboration between Toyota Motor Corporation and Subaru Corporation, due to a new business and capital alliance agreed in September 2019.
The GR 86 retains its predecessor's character as a fun-oriented, affordable and easy-to-drive sports coupe that responds to every driver input.
2.4-liter boxer engine with 235 hp output
Toyota and Subaru are still holding back with exact performance data. However, the 2.0-liter boxer engine has been replaced by a 2.4-liter powerplant - unchanged without turbocharging - which now produces 235 hp. However, the maximum torque of 255 Nm at 3700 rpm is manageable due to the unchanged naturally aspirated technology.
From a standstill, the sports coupe now needs 6.3 seconds to 100 km/h instead of the previous 7.4 seconds. The maximum speed is 7400 rpm.
Six-speed automatic or manual transmission
The customer has the choice of shifting through the gears manually or opting for a six-speed automatic. The automatic variant is equipped with Subaru's familiar Eye-Sight safety system.
Inside, there is a decidedly sporty interior with strongly contoured seats, digital instruments, a central multifunction screen, and a leather steering wheel with a good grip.
Roof and side parts made of aluminum save kilos
The dimensions of the GR 86 are virtually identical to those of its predecessor, but a 50 percent increase in torsional rigidity enables even more precise handling and steering behavior.
As before, the focus is also on keeping weight as low as possible; that's why the roof and side panels are made of aluminum, which should make the GR 86 the lightest four-seater coupe in its class, with a provisionally determined weight of 1270 kilos.
Suspension with MacPherson struts
The aerodynamic refinements such as the front air intakes and side sills are noteworthy. The suspension uses MacPherson struts at the front and double wishbones at the rear; the 18-inch rims are fitted with 215/40R18 tires.
Visually, the new compact coupe from Japan has a new design - but the proportions and dimensions have hardly changed. The hood is long, and the passenger cell is positioned far back. There is no doubt that the 4.27-meter GR 86, like its BRZ brother, is driven via the rear axle.
Market launch in Switzerland is planned for the end of the year.
