Scala is probably not only associated with the famous opera house in Milan by culture vultures. Škoda derives the model designation for the Rapid successor from the Latin term for stairs, ladder or scale. Whether opera or steps - both apply to the new compact. Welcome to the Scala!

Emotional design and high functionality
Once you sit in the Škoda Scala, even in the back, you realize that the name says it all. With its technology, emotional design, high functionality, safety and assistance systems, spaciousness and modern connectivity, it takes several steps or rungs at once.

The Scala is no longer a Rapid, but a completely newly developed and uncompromising vehicle based on the experience gained to date. Škoda boss Bernhard Maier speaks of a new chapter in his brand's compact class.

High-quality interior and plenty of space
The Scala is the first Škoda based on the Volkswagen Group's modern MQB-A0 modular transverse matrix. Thanks to its length of 4.362 meters, width of 1.793 meters and height of 1.471 meters, it offers its passengers plenty of space.

Even tall people enjoy plenty of head and legroom in the rear - riding in the back seat is not much more comfortable, even in a larger saloon or SUV. A wheelbase of 2649 millimetres provides a generous 73 centimetres of knee room and 98.2 centimetres of headroom in the rear.

Plenty of space is also provided by the many storage compartments and the most voluminous trunk in the class at 467 liters. Folding down the split rear seat (60:40) increases this to 1410 liters.

The interior flowed from the Vision RS concept study into the standard Scala without any major changes. Even tall people enjoy plenty of space in the rear.

Sophisticated aerodynamics and infotainment
The Scala also impresses with its proportions and flowing lines. The streamlined body with sophisticated aerodynamics is due to the new design language. This is reflected in a correspondingly low drag coefficient (from 0.29) and barely perceptible exterior noise.

The infotainment, sound system and connectivity leave nothing to be desired for a model in this price range. The Škoda technicians have reached deep into the Group's toolbox. If it's a Scala, then music should also be a little reminiscent of a hall like the Milan Opera.

Expression of the new design language: the Scala is the first in Europe to bear the Škoda logo in individual letters at the rear.

Natural gas variant to follow at the end of the year
There are two turbocharged engine variants for Switzerland at the start. When loaded, the 1-liter three-cylinder with 115 hp and 6-speed H-shift feels a little strained when you want to maintain your speed on hilly and winding country roads. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 150 hp and automatic transmission (7-speed DSG) feels more comfortable. Swiss customers, if they do not opt for the country's top-selling Octavia, are likely to go for the more powerful version.

Later in the year, two engine variants without forced ventilation will be added: a 1-liter TSI with 95 hp and, for particularly environmentally and cost-conscious Škoda drivers, the natural gas-powered G-Tec with 90 hp.
