The new details of the refreshed design of the Skoda Superb only become apparent at second glance.
The model was launched 18 years ago, and since then 1.25 million units have been built. Over the years, the former insider tip has become a permanent fixture in the mid-size class. Now the bestseller is entering its second decade in a revised version.
The radiator grille now stands more confidently in the wind and the front bumper has also been redesigned. At the rear, as on the compact scale, the brand's lettering is now unmistakably emblazoned above the chrome strip, and the refreshed Superb now also rolls on new 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Practical assistants as desired
In terms of technology, the developers also focused on evolution and gave the Superb LED matrix headlights that do not dazzle oncoming traffic even when the high beams are switched on. Keyless door opening is now also on board. LED lights are now on duty in the rear as well. speed limits and curves and automatically adjusts the speed. In addition, the developers gave the Superb a lane change assistant that detects vehicles up to 70 meters away and a front radar assistant that warns of a possible collision with pedestrians and brakes if necessary.
1.5-liter TSI engine also on offer
New to the engine family is the 1.5-liter TSI engine. The powertrain, familiar from other models, delivers 150 hp to the front wheels and is coupled with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed DSG. In either variant, this is a car that offers a lot of driving pleasure.
The chassis contributes its share to the relaxed driving style. This does not turn the Superb into a dynamic vehicle, but rather into a classic family transporter that offers sufficient space for all occupants thanks to its generous wheelbase of 2.84 meters.
SportLine Plus with 190 or 270 hp
For sporty customers, the Superb is also available in the SportLine Plus variant (from 58,610 Swiss francs). However, the sporty upgrade is rather discreet and limited to applications on the body and a sporty suspension. The powertrain lineup consists of the gasoline model with the 2.0 TSI engine with 270 hp and all-wheel drive. The diesel group uses the 2.0-liter TDI, which produces 190 hp as an all-wheel drive unit. In each case combined with 7-speed DSG shifting.
Core Scout only with all-wheel drive
Also new to the Superb range is the Scout (from 58 510 francs), which is offered exclusively with all-wheel drive. Unlike some competitors, Skoda chose a rather discreet preparation for off-road use.
The powertrains are the two-liter TSI with 270 hp as a gasoline engine and the two-liter TDI with 190 hp, both combined with a seven-speed DSG manual.
Other equipment lines available in Switzerland: Ambition from 40,590 Swiss francs, Style from 44,470 Swiss francs, and the particularly exquisitely equipped Laurin & Klement from 59,510 Swiss francs.
