The Škoda Combi has grown by 22 millimeters; its width has increased by 15 millimeters
The fact that the Czech car plays a role in the Swiss family's automotive life that should not be underestimated is shown by the ranking of the best-selling models in recent years: the Škoda Octavia has been number 1 since 2017. Hard to believe, but true: it replaced the Volkswagen Golf, which had been the declared favorite of the Swiss for decades.
Škoda intends to defend this hard-earned position in the future with clever ideas and cars that combine modern technology with tradition. And the chances are not bad.
Many details are typical Škoda
The Škoda Switzerland boss gets to the heart of the matter.
Markus Kohler: "The new Octavia also features many details that are typical of the brand. The combination of classic car construction and modern technology has contributed a great deal to its success, also in Switzerland. The Swiss appreciate this adherence to the tried and tested. This attitude also corresponds to our vision. Daring to try something new and incorporating the tried and tested is simply clever."
Soon also an electrified version
And the new Octavia, which is only available as an estate in Switzerland, stands for clever ideas, practical details, comfort, technology of tomorrow and much more. It has grown by 22 millimeters; its width has increased by 15 millimeters. The volume of the Combi's trunk, the largest in its class, has increased by 30 liters to 640 liters.
Sharper designs
The new front apron and the sharply designed, flatter new headlights with standard LED technology for low beam, high beam and daytime running lights are visual highlights.
The rear lights, brake lights and rear fog lights also feature LED technology. The newly designed, flat roof rails emphasize the elongated silhouette of the Combi.
Alloy wheels up to 19 inches in size ensure a powerful appearance for all model variants. The Crystal Black, Lava Blue and Titanium Blue paint colors are new, and a chrome and dynamic package are optionally available.
Grown space conditions
In the redesigned interior, the Octavia offers more space as well as a new two-spoke steering wheel, which can be heated as an option and which can be used to perform a total of 14 different functions using new control buttons and knurled wheels. The instrument panel, which has also been redesigned, has a modular structure with different levels and a large, free-standing central display; the center console is elegant and clearly designed.
Alternative drives and efficient engines
The Octavia iV is available with plug-in hybrid drive for the first time. Some of the further optimized petrol engines are equipped with innovative mild hybrid technology, while the diesel engines are from the new EVO generation and emit up to 80 percent less nitrogen oxide.
The power spectrum of the drive range extends from 110 hp to 204 hp. The Octavia G-Tec with natural gas drive (CNG) offers a range of up to 523 kilometers in environmentally friendly CNG mode with 17.7 kilograms of natural gas. In the Octavia iV, a 1.4 TSI petrol engine and an electric motor develop a system output of 204 PS.
The 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI petrol engines of the Evo generation feature mild hybrid technology in combination with the DSG as eTEC versions. The Evo diesel engines use the twin dosing process for exhaust gas aftertreatment, in which AdBlue is injected upstream of the two catalytic converters arranged one behind the other.
A sleeping package is available on request
A new addition to the range of Simply Clever features typical of the brand is the filler neck, which makes it possible to refuel diesel vehicles with AdBlue using truck fuel nozzles.
Also making their debut in the rear are two storage pockets for smartphones on the backrests of the front seats. For the first time, a sleeping package for the rear seat is also available as an option in the Octavia Combi.
