Škoda: A short name for a short car
PREVIEW With the Epiq design study, Škoda shows what the compact electric crossover model coming in 2025 will look like. According to the manufacturer, it will offer "a lot of car at an attractive price and a large interior".
The Škoda Epiq is set to become a milestone in Škoda's history. Its name alone fits perfectly into the nomenclature of the Czech brand's battery-electric SUV vehicles. The E at the beginning stands for the purely electric drive, the Q at the end of the word is the trademark of the Škoda SUV range.
The digital design study is 4.10 meters long, offers space for up to five people and a trunk capacity of up to 490 liters. The range is 400 kilometers.
Oliver Stefani, Head of Škoda Design: "Our new design language represents the next level of modernity. Clever functionality and practicality blend harmoniously with the attractive appearance and the sustainability approach."
Robustness and functionality
The new Modern Solid design language combines robustness and functionality with authenticity. The gloss black Tech-Deck-Face is a reinterpretation of the Škoda radiator grille and houses electrical systems such as distance radar and front camera. Bi-functional, T-shaped LED elements for daytime running lights and indicators flank the Tech-Deck Face. The front bumper underlines the robust appearance and features a spoiler painted in Unique Dark Chrome. A characteristic feature of the side view is the curved tornado line.
Sustainable materials inside
The Epiq will be the first production model to feature a minimalist modern-solid interior made predominantly from sustainable materials. It is characterized by an open storage option with an inductive charging station for smartphones and additional Simply Clever storage compartments. In addition to the new Škoda lettering, the two-spoke steering wheel features physical buttons and haptic dials for controlling the most important functions.
The Epiq crossover model is being built in Pamplona, Spain, as part of a joint development and production project between the Škoda, Cupra and Volkswagen brands. The battery-electric compact SUV Škoda Elroq is also set to make its debut this year.
