For the successor to the Yeti, Skoda relies on the ingredients of the successful Kodiaq, simply a bit smaller. The Skoda Karoq measures 4382 mm in length, 1841 mm in width and 1605 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2638 mm (2630 mm for the all-wheel drive version). The trunk holds 521 liters. With the bench seat folded down, the capacity increases to 1630 liters. In conjunction with the optional Vario-Flex rear seats, the storage space is variable between 479 and 588 liters. The system consists of three separate rear seats that can be individually adjusted and completely removed, increasing the cargo space volume to 1810 liters.
The interior features a completely redesigned dashboard with digital instrument panel divided into a tall upper and narrow lower section. The decorative trim in the doors continues the design. The four large air vents are mounted vertically, with the center two flanking the on-board monitor. Ultra-thin LED light guides for ambient lighting are located at the top of the four door moldings and continue on the dashboard. The driver can control the brightness of the light, which can be set in ten different colors. LED technology is also used for the taillights, brake lights and fog lights.
Sensible choice of efficient motors
Five turbocharged engines are available for the powertrain. The entry-level model is a 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with 115 hp, while the top unit is the familiar 190 hp 2.0-liter diesel, which is combined with all-wheel drive as standard. New to the range is a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with 150 hp and cylinder deactivation, which replaces the 1.4-liter engine with the same output still used in the Yeti. A driving profile switch with Normal, Sport, Eco, Individual and Snow (4×4) modes is also available as an option from the Ambition equipment line. The off-road mode combines a special off-road ABS with a hill descent assistant that maintains a constant slow speed, particularly on downhill stretches with a gradient angle of up to 80 percent off-road, through brake intervention and via the engine management system.
Skoda places a lot of emphasis on assistants, connectivity and digitalization in the Karoq. The list of options includes a Wi-Fi hotspot with LTE technology, Emergency Brake Assist with pedestrian detection, Parking Assist, Lane Assist, and Traffic Jam Assist. For fans of mobile towing, there will also be the optional Trailer Assist, which makes parking with a trailer child's play.
