The Skoda Superb iV Ambition model is available from just CHF 39,990.

Manufacturers and importers must work on their model programs to reduce fuel consumption. There is no way around electric and hybrid cars.

Plug-in hybrids are a good solution for combining both locally emission-free driving and long ranges. Skoda has therefore given the new Superb a new powertrain with a petrol engine and electric motor.

Superb iV
With its length of 4.86 meters, the Superb iV Combi offers plenty of space for passengers and luggage.

In the city 62 kilometers electric
The large mid-size representative Superb, 4.86 meters long and in its latest version only available in Switzerland as a Combi, combines a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor. Together, the two units generate a system output of 218 hp and a combined torque of 400 Nm. The lithium-ion battery gives the alternative Superb an electric range of up to 62 kilometers.

Zero to 60 km/h in five seconds
Together with the 50 liters of fuel reserve, driving distances of up to around 930 kilometers are possible. In EV mode, the vehicle accelerates to 60 km/h in five seconds. In addition to EV mode, the driver can also select hybrid or sport mode.

The car is most economical in automatic hybrid mode. The combustion engine and electric motor then provide the combined drive with optimum efficiency. Driving off is always purely electric, after which the driver uses the accelerator pedal to determine when the petrol engine comes in to assist.

Temperamental if required
In sport mode, the economy car becomes a sprinter. The combined 218 hp gives the Superb iV a zero-to-one-hundred acceleration time of 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 224 km/h. Although the plug-in Superb is only available as a front-wheel drive model, it also delivers its power well on wet roads.

In addition to the engine-transmission control, the sport mode influences the steering and the standard DCC adaptive chassis control. Unlike the petrol and diesel models, the hybrid model is equipped with a six-speed rather than a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Manual intervention is possible, but not necessary.

Superb iV
Regular charging is part of the sensible use of the Superb iV's plug-in hybrid drive.

Four equipment options are available
Like its conventionally powered brothers, the Superb iV is available in four trim levels: Ambition, Style, Sport Line and L&K. There are many assistants, such as Side Assist, Predictive Cruise Control, Trailer Assist and 360-degree all-round visibility. Wheels are available from 17 to 19 inches.

The big Skoda is also a pleasure to drive in terms of price: the Ambition model is available from just 39,990 francs.
