Seat: Electric scooter for city runners

FLOTT BEFORE THE STAUFF A full 66 years have passed since Seat developed its first vehicle. Seven decades later, the Spanish automaker is ushering in a new era of mobility on two wheels. The first models of the first scooter built by Seat are manufactured in Barcelona.

The fully electric scooter scores with a surprising lighting concept, many connectivity solutions that are practical for everyday use, and an appealing geometry.

The scooter, which will be launched later this year, is particularly suitable for sharing fleets. The price for Switzerland has not yet been fixed.

Ergonomics is in the foreground
The designers approached the development of the scooter with a completely different mindset this time.

Exterior designer Joan Melenchon: "The vehicle was born from a completely new vision. Riding a motorcycle is much more interactive than driving a car, and there's much more focus on ergonomics."

Challenge for designers
In addition to a larger number of vehicle parts, a motorcycle also has more connections between the individual parts.

Francesca Sangalli, Head of Color & Trim: "For us as automotive designers, it was initially a big challenge to design a vehicle that would appeal to a whole new target group."

Barcelona is two-wheeler metropolis
Fittingly, not only was the concept study for the electric scooter designed in Barcelona, it will also be produced there. Of all the major European cities, the Catalan capital has the highest proportion of motorcyclists in urban traffic.

The appearance of the scooter is characterized by clean, stylized lines that come together to form its own geometry.

Joan Melenchon "Our goal was to create a new iconic vehicle that was straightforward and suitable for everyday use, but also distinctive and recognizable."

The result is a functional design with practical elements such as the replaceable battery for easy charging and seamless mobility.

Development for sharing fleets
The new scooter is suitable for all target groups, but was developed especially for sharing fleets. For this reason, robust materials are used, such as the rubber coating on the side bumpers.

The strategic placement of the components ensures easy replacement in the event of damage. The necessary comfort has also been thought of: the saddle offers enough storage space for two helmets, while two USB ports and a smartphone holder allow the rider to stay connected.

Inspiration from the automotive world
The new concept study stands out not only for its color concept, but also for its technology. In addition to a new type of lighting system that spans the front and rear, the scooter features an innovation that was previously only known from new cars.

Joan Melenchon: "Our scooter is equipped with dynamic turn signals, which are regularly seen on new cars but have not been used on motorcycles before. We integrated these turn signals into our study because they represent an unmistakable signal. In this way, too, we underscore the scooter's status as an icon of its time."
