Renault: Open House 🎥
WITHOUT B-PILLAR With numerous door stiffeners and the relocation of the latches to the upper and lower edges, Renault was able to significantly increase the side loading opening on the Kangoo Van Open Sesame by Renault.
The "Open Sesame by Renault" cargo opening combines the front passenger door and the right sliding door to form a continuous, 1.45-meter-wide side cargo opening without a B-pillar.
Thanks to these measures, the van has the same level of safety in the event of a side impact as the variant with a conventional body, despite the large loading opening.

Safety was the focus
This Renault innovation, which can make users' everyday work much easier, represented a major challenge for the developers. For the first time, they had to design a vehicle without a center column.
To do this, the safety-relevant parts had to be repositioned, including the door locks. These were relocated to the upper and lower edges of the passenger and cargo area doors, so that the lock latches now engage on the door sill and roof pillar.
In addition, the elimination of the B-pillar necessitated new attachment points for the front passenger safety belt.
Special stiffening of the doors
The most important new features are the special reinforcements in the doors. They are located in the area of the door locks and, as on the front passenger door, at the level of the shoulder line and on the lower edge.
The area where the two doors meet and where the B-pillar is located in conventional vans is also extensively reinforced.
Instead of 60 now 101 welding points
The introduction of Open Sesame by Renault necessitated new manufacturing processes. Renault adds a total of five kilograms of material to compensate for the absence of the B-pillar.
The number of welding points has also increased. While a normal door requires about 60, the Sesame door requires 101 welding points.
