According to the factory, the Clio E-Tech accelerates to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds and is a lively companion, especially in heavy city traffic. If you activate the so-called B-mode for driving, the E-Tech recuperates even more and you can almost forget about using the brake pedal. Driving is really fun here.
In any case, the horsepower of the Clio Hybrid feels good and pushes the small car forward well, even if the electric part of the drive has the upper hand. The chassis is neutral and balanced, and the car can be driven both smoothly and with a touch of sportiness.
Space conditions as for the combustion engine models
Visually, the Renault Clio remains a Clio even with hybrid drive - the references to its electric-petrol-combustion engine combination are kept very discreet.
Renault also lets the interior of the Clio E-Tech retain its normality: there is only a tiny E-Tech patch on the frame around the gear selector lever.
The space in the hybridized Clio is no different from that of its model siblings, except that the trunk loses a few liters because of the battery. But you spend less at the gas pump.
80 percent of journeys in the city purely electric
Conclusion: The Clio E-Tech is a well-tuned small car with hybrid drive. Most interesting is its ability to handle 80 percent of city driving purely electrically.
Its comparatively high weight due to three motors and a 1.2 kWh battery is a bit noticeable when driving, and the steering could use a bit more precision. As experience shows, you get used to that very quickly.
