Renault: Pod offers space for two people
TRIAL CARRIER The French have designed a micromobile for transporting people and goods in the city. The Renault Pod offers enough space for two people. The Pod micromobile is based on the Twizy. The Renault Pod is still an experimental vehicle and shows what a mini-vehicle could look like for operation in the city or in enclosed areas such as shopping malls, company premises, hotel complexes or at an airport. For transporting groups, the slow-moving pods can also be linked together to form convoys.
GPS receiver shows vehicle position
Thanks to its low driving speed, the Renault Pod requires few sensors. A camera and a lidar detector scan the area in front of the vehicle. There are also long- and short-range radar sensors at the front and rear. A GPS receiver to determine the vehicle's position in real time and two antennas on the roof for networking complete the list of technical systems for fully automated operation.
Freight transports on the first mile
In addition to the passenger transport variant, there is also a version for transporting goods over the first mile, for example in logistics centers, and the so-called last mile. The design is based on Renault's EZ-Go robo-taxi study, while the modular concept is derived from the fully autonomous EZ-Pro logistics concept.
