The Range Rover Velar of the 2021 model year has been improved in many details from the ground up.
The P400e plug-in hybrid combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with 300 hp output and a 105 kW (143 hp) electric motor to create a complete package with 404 hp system output.
This allows the Briton to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, while it can cover up to 61 kilometers in pure electric mode.
The 17.1-kWh lithium-ion battery, which is housed under the vehicle floor, can be recharged with 80 percent energy in 30 minutes at a DC fast-charging station - it takes one hour and 40 minutes at a seven-kW wallbox.
Mild hybrid system with starter-generator
For the first time, 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engines from the Ingenium family are available with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The engines are available as a D300 diesel variant with 300 hp or as a P400 gasoline engine with 400 hp - coupled with electronically controlled air suspension as standard on the R-Dynamic.
The mild hybrid system uses a belt-driven starter-generator that directs recuperated energy to the 48-volt lithium-ion battery placed underneath the trunk.
In addition to the engines with six combustion chambers, a new four-cylinder comes on board the Velar. The D200 diesel produces 204 hp and 430 Nm of maximum torque from two liters of displacement. It is also equipped with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
Pivi and Pivi Pro infotainment systems
The Range Rover Velar's interior design is enhanced by two large touchscreens that are perfectly integrated into the dashboard and center console. You can see more details in the gallery.
The Pivi and Pivi Pro infotainment systems are ready to use right from the start. The integrated data connection enables free software updates "over-the-air" at any time, and updates can be started as desired via the touchscreen.
Spotify with its own data volume was integrated into the Pivi systems for the first time. Two cell phones can be connected simultaneously via Bluetooth.
Suppression of road noise
In the new model year, road noise suppression is also available in the sound system. In the Velar, it detects vibrations emanating from the road surface and generates a kind of counter-frequency within fractions of a second to suppress the noise that is undesirable for passengers. Comfort, even off-road, is everything at RR.
Prices start at 67,900 francs.
