Porsche: This is how the Taycan electric car drives 🎥

THERE'S REALLY SOMETHING Actually, no one expected it any other way: The first all-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo and Turbo S are a whopping performance in any version. A first impression of the electric car in motion. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S produces 560 kW (761 hp), while the Turbo puts 500 kW (680 hp) on the trackTo make it [...]

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S produces 560 kW (761 hp), the Turbo 500 kW (680 hp) on the track: The Taycans are true Porsches even in driving mode; three weeks ago, we were only able to experience the models in stationary mode at the world premiere in Berlin. Now we have driven part of the media Porsche Taycan road trip, which is around six and a half thousand kilometers long and leads from Oslo through Germany via Austria back to Berlin and back to Stuttgart.

We drove the Dornbirn - Innsbruck stage, around 300 kilometers in total, with a charging stop halfway through to try out the Ionity Charger station. And to experience how quickly the 800-volt batteries of the Taycans are charged.

Car journalist Dörte Welti shows how easy it is to charge the Porsche Tycan before it takes off.

Mixture of Panamera and 911 GT3
From the outside, the hatchback (that's what the car papers say) looks like a cross between the Panamera and the 911 GT3. Bulky, massive, and yet with the unmistakable Porsche front end and the continuous light strip in the rear, which is now installed in all new models.

In fact, the chassis was taken from the Panamera and adapted. The car is classified as a saloon car in the Porsche range. The very clean impression of Berlin manifests itself when you take a seat in the cockpit and look around.

Taycan
Twenty-one driving assistance systems alone are available to the driver in the all-electric Porsche Taycan.

Touchpoints, displays and cogs
The surfaces are smooth, reduced, everything digital. The switches have been virtually eliminated; there are touch points on the displays and a few wheels on the steering wheel.

Only a rather large digital clock sits enthroned on the dashboard, framed by an analog seconds display. It looks a bit like the design department's last attempt to preserve reminiscences of the analog age in the Porsche.

Refinements and driving assistance systems
But that's not necessary. When you choose a Taycan, you're driving a Porsche Lab car. Developed in the lab with every conceivable refinement that digital technology has to offer for everything that is supposed to make driving easier.

There are 21 driver assistance systems alone. Whether you need them if you want to drive sustainably would have to be proven in a longer test.

Normal, Sport, Sport Plus or Range
But we also want to drive sustainably in the near future. And we want to prove that we are capable of learning. With one eye on the battery charge indicator and the other on the road, we hum along silently in the Taycan. Only the different driving modes Normal, Sport, Sport Plus or Range allow us to perceive quiet noise changes inside.

Impressive acceleration from a standstill
Yes, the car goes off like Luzy. Arrow-quick acceleration (3.2 or 2.8 seconds is the factory's specification from 0 to 100 km/h for Turbo and Turbo S), pure driving pleasure. A lush power weighing around 2.3 tons that hugs the road thanks to sophisticated aerodynamics.

You feel the weight, you feel the immovable road holding, you trust the cornering behavior, you drive yourself into a trance. It's dangerous, like an intoxication. Which can only be slowed down by common sense, because the faster the emptier, the more uncoordinated, the faster the range indicator counts down.

No, you don't miss shifting because you know there is no gearbox, no traction interruption (I learned that word when I asked the colleague riding with me what was not happening in acceleration).

Range up to 450 kilometers
The top version of the Taycan, the Turbo S, is available with 560 kW (761 hp) and a range of 412 kilometers. The Taycan Turbo has 500 kW (680 hp) and a range of 450 kilometers. What's special about the engine is that it is an 800-volt unit instead of the usual 400 volts. This means it can be recharged in five minutes with direct current (DC) in the fast charging network to provide energy for up to 100 more kilometers - an advantage for long-distance planning.

Just this: The electrified Porsche soul has worked, if the driver is willing to get involved. Prices start at 194,900 Swiss francs for the Porsche Taycan Turbo, and 237,500 Swiss francs are due for the Turbo S.
