Porsche: The 718 Spyder RS comes with 500 hp 🎥

OFFENSE DRIVING FUN 30 years after the Boxster concept car was unveiled, Porsche is launching the most powerful version of the mid-engine roadster: the 718 Spyder RS with a 4-liter high-revving naturally aspirated engine.

The 718 Spyder RS is the open-top counterpart to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. For the first time, the naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine of the 911 GT3 is used in an open mid-engine sports car. The same power unit also drives the 911 GT3 Cup racing car. In the 718 Spyder RS, with its lightweight and special soft top, the emotional sound of the engine is particularly audible.

The 4-liter engine revs up to 9000 rpm and develops a maximum torque of 450 Nm and an output of 500 hp. Combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the six-cylinder accelerates the two-seater roadster to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, and 200 km/h is reached after 10.9 seconds. The top speed is 308 km/h.

The 718 Spyder RS will make its public debut in June at the celebrations to mark 75 years of Porsche sports cars in Zuffenhausen.

Consistent lightweight construction

In addition to the more powerful engine, the lower weight is also responsible for the performance increase of the new model. At 1410 kilograms, the Spyder RS weighs 40 kilograms less than the 718 Spyder, five kilograms less than the 718 Cayman GT4 RS.

The front end is almost identical to that of the Cayman GT4 RS. The front hood is made of carbon fiber plastic and has a wide air outlet above the bumper. Sideblades at the ends of the bumper increase downforce. All aerodynamic components keep the car in balance and ensure maximum driving stability at high speeds.

Purist hood design

The manually operated single-layer lightweight canopy is designed to save space and consists of a sun canopy and a weather bulkhead. Both are completely removable and can be stowed in the vehicle individually or together. The entire soft top weighs just 18.3 kilograms - 7.6 kilograms less than in the 718 Spyder and 16.5 kilograms less than in the 718 Boxster.

The chassis uses components from the Cayman GT4 RS and Spyder and is tuned for maximum driving pleasure on winding roads. It features Porsche Active Suspension Management with sport tuning and lowering by 30 millimeters, Porsche Torque Vectoring with rear axle cross-lock, and 20-inch forged wheels.
