This includes the newly developed four-liter six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine together with a manual six-speed transmission. The boxer engine produces 420 hp in both models. While the GT4 represents Porsche's entry-level GT road models, the Spyder is ideal for all kinds of cornering fun. The naturally aspirated engine is based on the same engine family as the turbo powerplants in the current 911 Carrera series.
Top speed over 300 km/h
The new high-revving unit produces 35 hp more than in the GT4 predecessor model. The third generation of the Spyder increases by 45 hp. The maximum torque of 420 Newton meters is available from 5000 to 6800 rpm.
The 718 Spyder is 301 km/h fast, the 718 Cayman GT4 reaches 304 km/h. Both models accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. The unique boxer sound has remained untouched.
Everyday lightweight convertible top
The new 718 Spyder is a fun-to-drive machine with a high-speed lightweight soft top. It continues the history of such famous roadsters as the Porsche 550 Spyder and the 718 RS 60 Spyder. The soft top is suitable for everyday use and can be stowed under the trunk lid in just a few easy steps.
Unlike the GT4, the 718 Spyder has a rear spoiler that deploys automatically at 120 km/h. The rear diffuser is the first model in the Boxster family to generate downforce at the rear axle. Thanks to the diffuser, it is the first model in the Boxster family to generate downforce on the rear axle.
Chassis for circuit use
For the first time, the 718 Spyder benefits from the GT chassis of the 718 Cayman GT4. Its further refined lightweight strut front and rear axles incorporate racing technologies. It is specially designed for circuit use and sharpens the handling characteristics of the 718 Cayman GT4. The 718 Spyder benefits from this design.
