Piaggio Porter now also with pure electric drive

The Piaggio Porter, which is particularly popular with SMEs and local authorities and which excels as a van, pickup or tipper and is therefore a small, maneuverable and versatile light commercial vehicle, is now also available with an electric drive.

The Piaggio Porter is available in a variety of versions that can be flexibly adapted to the requirements of professional transportation. The NP6 was previously powered by a 1.5-liter in-line four-cylinder engine (118 Nm, 106 hp) combined with a manual 5-speed gearbox. The petrol-CNG hybrid was also available with different CNG tank sizes (Short Range: 1×40 or 1×55 liters CNG/biogas + 45 l petrol or Long Range: 1×20 and 1×40, 1×30 and 1×40 or twice each 55 liters CNG/biogas + 45 l petrol).

The latest version, the Porter NPE, now combines all the proven advantages of the versatile Italian with an electric drive and thus meets the needs of companies that want to be even more environmentally friendly and locally emission-free on the road.

New interior and driver assistance systems

Thanks to new interior fittings and modern safety and driver assistance systems, the Porter NPE also offers maximum safety and a high level of driving comfort. Among other things, it is equipped with an automatic emergency brake, lane departure warning system, speed assistance system, attention warning system and even a smart helper that prevents the risk of the trailer swaying excessively. Incidentally, these innovations are also available to the combustion engine versions of the Piaggio NP6 series, which has also been extensively modernized.

The electric Piaggio Porter is powered by the so-called Electric Drive Unit (EDU). This is an innovative system that combines the entire electric drivetrain, including inverter and gearbox, in one compact unit. Thanks to optimized electrics and cooling, this solution offers high efficiency and constant performance with minimal space and energy requirements.

Powerful e-drive

With 150 kW and 330 Nm, the Porter NPE delivers a powerful drive performance even on steeper routes. It reaches a top speed of 90 km/h and, with a range of up to 255 km (stated before type approval is completed), enables reliable use in urban areas. A 42 kWh LFP battery (lithium iron phosphate) supplies the necessary energy. It supports both standard and fast charging, whereby the charging process can be completed from 20 to 70 percent in just 30 minutes.

The robust design of the chassis still allows an impressive payload of up to 1055 kg, even with the electric version. The rear-wheel drive ensures stability and excellent traction. The Porter NPE therefore also combines a compact vehicle size with an exceptional load capacity. The Porter NPE is available in four modern and eye-catching colors: Amber Orange, Marble White, Opal Blue and Jade Green.

The Piaggio NPE, equipped with the latest battery technology, will arrive at dealers in Switzerland in spring 2025; the price is still unknown. What is clear, however, is that the battery will have a warranty of 8 years or 160,000 kilometers (70% minimum residual capacity).
