Peugeot: New 508 launches as First Edition
COMFORT AND POWER With the sporty, elegant 508, Peugeot is showing its teeth to the established competition. The flagship already caused quite a stir at this year's Geneva Motor Show. That has not changed in the meantime. During the first press drives, the new 508 was the most photographed car in fashionable Monte Carlo, outshining almost all luxury cars. This probably has a lot to do with the sporty, elegant body, which is 4.75 meters long and only 1.40 meters high. The 508 looks much more like a coupe than a sedan. The frameless doors underscore the new character. The modern I-cockpit and the small, double-flattened steering wheel also match this.
Optimum tuning of suspension and damping
However, the visual impression is deceptive. The Peugeot 508 is more of a luxurious touring sedan than a sporty coupe. The flagship can certainly be driven dynamically over winding roads when the "Sport" driving mode is selected, but its real strength is the speedy rolling in the "Comfort" setting. The exemplary tuning of the suspension and damping almost makes you forget about poor road conditions.
Eight-speed automatic transmission comes as standard
At the start of sales, there will be a choice of three diesels with 130 hp (1.5 liter) and 160 and 180 hp (both 2.0) and two 1.6-liter PureTech gasoline engines with 180 or 225 hp. All meet the new Euro6d TEMP standard. The 130 hp diesel engine is rated in energy efficiency class A. While the other versions are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard, the small diesel can also be ordered exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.
Limited Swiss First Edition series from 56,000 Swiss francs
The Peugeot 508 can now be ordered in the Acitve, Allure, GT Line and GT equipment versions. The new flagship costs at least 36,900 Swiss francs, while the 225 hp gasoline engine starts at 52,500 francs. At the start of sales, Peugeot Suisse is also offering a limited First Edition series for 56,000 Swiss francs (top gasoline engine only). The first vehicles will roll into Switzerland at the beginning of November. The 508 SW station wagon version will follow as early as the first quarter of next year, and a 225 hp plug-in hybrid version with a purely electric range of 50 kilometers will be available shortly thereafter.
