Opel: New technology for diesel and gasoline engines

SUSTAINABLE The engineers in Rüsselsheim have lent a helping hand with the renewal of the engine range in the three variants of the SUV lineup. A lot has been done under the hood in particular. For example, a 1.4-liter turbo with 120 hp replaces the previous 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine in the Mokka X. Technology
More powerful engines are available for the Opel Mokka X, Grandland X and Crossland X models (from left). Diesel and gasoline engines with particulate filters or catalytic converters will be available in the next few months.

For example, a 1.4-liter turbo with 120 hp replaces the previous 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine in the Mokka X. It is five hp more powerful than its predecessor and consumes 6.6 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers. The Crossland X and Grandland X crossover models are powered by the 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine, which produces 88 hp as a naturally aspirated version and 110 hp or 130 hp in the turbocharged versions. The new diesel delivers 102 hp and 250 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. Consumption is 4.0 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers.

Eight-speed automatic transmission for the Grandland X
The larger Grandland X is equipped with the 1.5-liter diesel engine with 130 hp. It consumes 4.2 liters of diesel here and can be combined with a new eight-speed automatic transmission for identical consumption figures. The further spread leads to the consumption advantage.

Gasoline engine soon with particulate filter and catalytic converter for diesel
Opel can be satisfied with sales of the X models. It has risen from 14.7 to 17.5 percent within a year. In order to achieve the goal of generating a full 40 percent of sales in the growing SUV segment by 2020, the technical appearance of the three X versions is being further refined. Within the next few months, all gasoline engines will be fitted with particulate filters, while the diesels will gradually be equipped with SCR catalytic converters (selective catalytic reduction) and urea injection for NOx reduction.
