FOLLOWER Opel also wants to develop into an all-electric brand. Rüsselsheim has announced an electric Manta that is scheduled to hum off the production line from 2025. The model was one of the stars of automotive design in the 1970s. The Manta GSe ElektroMOD lithium-ion battery with 31 kWh allows a range of around 200 kilometers. Since 2017, Opel no longer belongs to General Motors but to the French PSA Group. In contrast to GM's counterparts, which are often focused on heavy U.S. or cheap Far East vehicles, the French platforms are considered to be consistently compatible for Europe.
Opel wants to develop into a purely electric brand. The wait for the Manta-e- is shortened by the GSe ElektroMOD, which is unfortunately not available for purchase.

Need for real car characters
Clever identical parts policy calls for genuine car characters that differentiate and shape the image of the brands. Opel's long history is peppered with strong car types, the most certainly emotionally charged being the Manta.
So it seems only logical to underscore the brand's new course with the Opel Manta-e, which is scheduled for launch in the middle of the decade. A sketch shows not a sports coupe like its ancestor, but a futuristically styled high-legged crossover.
Brand face and modern drive technology
The Manta GSe ElektroMOD (pictures in the gallery) combines the classic body shape with the new Vizor brand face and modern drive technology. With 108 kW (147 hp), the E-Manta even trumps the usual 100 kW of Opel's electric cars.
The driver can choose whether to change the four gears by hand or simply engage fourth gear and leave the rest to the electronics. Power is transmitted to the rear axle. The show car's lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 31 kWh, allowing an average range of around 200 kilometers.
Entry soon also into the Chinese market
The L-generation Astra is likely to be the last new development with an internal combustion engine for Europe. However, unlike the Mokka and Corsa, it will not be available as a pure BEV. However, it will be available as a hybrid. Opel also wants to enter the Chinese market - exclusively with electric cars.
