Bold, purist and unlike any other hatchback you've ever seen - this is the new Opel Astra.
The new Astra was designed and developed at Opel's headquarters and will also be produced there from the fall. In addition to gasoline and diesel engines, the five-door model will also be available as a plug-in hybrid when orders start in October. The power range extends from 110 hp to 225 hp.
Plug-in hybrids and purely electric drive systems
For the first time, the compact class model from Rüsselsheim will also be available in electric form, and in three variants.
Opel will offer the new Astra both as a plug-in hybrid in two performance levels and, from 2023, as a pure battery-electric Astra-e.
In addition, there are versions with gasoline and diesel engines in combination with 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmissions.
Uwe Hochgeschurtz: "With the new Astra, Opel is entering a new era. This applies to the complete drive selection up to the battery-electric Astra-e as well as to its technologies and design. A car with which Opel is setting an example and which has everything it takes to become a bestseller once again."
New version of the adaptive light Intelli-Lux
Like its predecessor when it was launched in 2015, the newcomer brings innovations to the compact class that customers previously only knew from expensive models.
For example, the Astra debuts the latest version of the adaptive Intelli-Lux LED Pixel light. The light system comes directly from Opel's flagship Insignia and, with 168 LED elements, is a leader in the compact and mid-size classes.
No superfluous data nor functions
A leap in time has taken place in the interior. With the fully digital Pure Panel, all analog displays disappear. Instead, the new human-machine interface with a fresh, modern look is intended to offer an intuitive operating experience.
The Opel developers have made sure that the driver receives all necessary information and all useful operating options, but is not burdened with superfluous data or functionalities.
Front seats developed in-house
Seating comfort is also typical of Opel in the new compact class model. The front seats, which were developed in-house, are AGR-certified (Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V. - Campaign for Healthy Backs) and their ergonomics are designed to offer true oases of well-being even on long journeys.
The driver is supported by state-of-the-art assistance systems ranging from the head-up display and the semi-autonomous Intelli-Drive 2.0 system, which combines all cameras and sensors on the vehicle with eHorizon Connectivity support, to the 360-degree all-round view called Intelli-Vision.
No concessions for everyday use
The new Astra is 4.37 meters long and 1.86 meters wide. This means that the next Astra generation is just four millimeters longer than before. The wheelbase grew by 13 millimeters to 2675 millimeters.
Visually, the Astra makes a sporty appearance - without making any concessions in everyday use. This is also demonstrated by the flexible luggage compartment of the five-seater, which is equipped with an adjustable load floor. With the seats folded down, up to 1250 liters of luggage can be stowed here.
Sales launch with the sporty five-door model
The new Opel Astra will be available to order starting in the fall and will roll out to the first customers in spring 2022. It will initially be launched as a sporty five-door model with coupe-like lines; the Astra Sports Tourer station wagon version will follow shortly. The battery-electric Opel Astra-e will follow one year after the market launch of the new generation.
Swiss prices for the new Astra have not yet been set.
