Opel: Grandland X as a hybrid electric vehicle4 🎥
FUTURE IN ACTION The brand with the lightning bolt has not just recognized the signs of the times. With the Grandland X Hybrid4, it has launched another electrified model onto the market. The Grandland X Hybrid 4 is the prelude to the electrification of the Opel model range by 2024.
But first things first: When Opel launched the Ampera almost ten years ago, there were many words of praise, but the e-mobile did not really catch on with customers. The successor Ampera-e was no different.
Since then, however, the starting position has changed thoroughly, and the industry is struggling to meet the EU's stricter emissions standards. These cannot be achieved without consistent electrification.
System power of 300 hp
The latest result is the Grandland X, which is now in dealerships as a plug-in hybrid with the suffix "Hybrid4". Two electric drives, which together achieve a range of up to 59 kilometers, work together with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. That means a system output of 300 hp.
Equipped in this way, the Grandland reaches 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and accelerates to a maximum of 235 km/h. The electric drive stops at 135 km/h. However, the electric drive stops at a maximum of 135 km/.
Warranty up to 160 000 kilometers
The two electric motors produce 81 kW (110 hp) at the front axle and 83 kW (113 hp) at the rear axle. They are supplied with energy via a 13.2 kWh lithium-ion battery.
In the best case, this can be charged in around two hours at a wallbox with 7.4 kW charging power. Up to seven hours are needed at the usual household connection. The battery comes with a warranty of eight years or 160,000 kilometers.
Silent change of drives
The drive units work together unobtrusively. The switch from electric to combustion engine and from front-wheel to all-wheel drive is smooth. The occupants notice nothing.
Only a glance at the display, which shows the various driving states, reveals how the five-seater is currently on the road. The eight-speed automatic coupled to the drive works discreetly in the background.
Blue light for electric drive
After pressing the start button, nothing happens at first. The electrified Grandland starts electrically and correspondingly silently. Nothing changes in this silence in electric mode. Only when the electric energy is used up does the drive system switch to hybrid mode and change from electric to combustion mode as needed.
In addition to these two settings, the driver also has the options for all-wheel drive and sport. The "e-Save" function allows electric energy to be stored before entering environmental zones where models with conventional drive are barred. A small blue light in the windshield then lights up to indicate the electric drive.
Driving fun in tight corners
Hybrid models used to be considered boring and lacking in dynamic features. The Grandland shows that these times are over.
Thanks to the well-balanced chassis, the 1.8-ton SUV pulls swiftly through the curves. And when the electric drive kicks in to assist with acceleration, the 300 hp and torque of up to 520 Newton meters are pleasantly noticeable.
Good average consumption
Opel quotes the consumption at 1.4 to 1.3 liters (measured according to the new WLTP measurement method and the special PHEV procedure). This value might be achievable in optimal conditions on the test bench, but in reality 4.7 liters were on the display after a first drive on country roads in the Black Forest, which is still a good value, though.
Basic version with equipment
The price for the Grandland X Hybrid4 starts at 49,900 francs. Even the basic version of the Grandland X Hybrid4 is well equipped. Among other things, it comes to customers with dual-zone automatic climate control, a navigation system, lane departure warning, a keyless locking and starting system, and an active seat certified by Aktion Gesunder Rücken.
Continuation of electrification
The Grandland X Hybrid 4 kicks off the electrification of Opel's entire model range by 2024. The next addition will be the Corsa-e in March, followed by the Vivaro-e van and the electrically powered Mokka, which will be unveiled toward the end of the year.
