The GT X Experimental SUV study embodies the next evolutionary stage of Opel's design philosophy. As a vision for future models, the Rüsselsheim-based company has placed a futuristic-looking electric vehicle on trendy 17-inch designer wheels. The special proportions and smoothly flowing surfaces of the four-seater GT X, which is only 4.06 meters long but 1.83 meters wide, are the first thing that catches the eye, followed by the extremely wide doors that open in opposite directions. There is no B-pillar, making it correspondingly easy to get into the vehicle.
Goal: fully autonomous
Since Opel wants to offer an electrified version of all models by 2024, the GT X is also advanced in terms of its drive system: the 50-kWh lithium-ion battery can be charged wirelessly. Although the concept car is not yet fully autonomous, it has already reached level 3: it can drive independently, but the driver must be able to react and intervene in an emergency. On the occasion of the first appearance of this concept car in Switzerland, Jeannette Finger, Assistant Chief Designer at Opel, pointed out the "new leitmotif for the front and rear view of Opel models" in the Reithalle Solothurn: the "Opel compass", which represents the wing-shaped daytime running lights and the sharp "crease" in the hood.
