With the premiere of the new Qashqai, Nissan is underpinning its leading role in the European crossover segment.

The new Qashqai is more muscularly styled than its predecessor, with sharper lines. A prominent crease runs the entire length of the body. The wheelbase has become 20 millimeters longer.

To improve the driver's visibility, the windshield was enlarged, the A-pillars are narrower because the side mirrors are mounted differently on the doors.

Young parents will be pleased to know that the rear doors can now be opened by 85 degrees, which makes handling with child seats much easier. In the rear, the knee space has grown by 28 millimeters. And there is also a little more space above the heads.

The cargo space is also larger: It has increased by 50 liters compared with the predecessor. Nissan has expanded its range of assistance systems.

Ambient lighting and a little more luxury
The front is dominated by the chrome-plated V grille, which is flanked by two narrow light strips with matrix LEDs and elongated daytime running lights in boomerang design. Inside, there is ambient lighting and a bit more luxury.

For example, it takes around two weeks to assemble the seats in optional nappa leather. The short shift lever for the automatic transmission on the center console is striking.

Infotainment, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay
Nissan has also upgraded the connected options, including WiFi in the car, extensive infotainment and Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

The screen has moved up the center of the dashboard and grown to nine inches, and the instrument cluster in front of the driver is completely digital. The optional head-up display is now one of the largest in the class. A connection to the web provides up-to-date navigation maps and traffic information.

With e-Power there are no range problems
There are two engine options for the new Qashqai. The first is a 1.3-liter gasoline engine with mild hybrid system and a power range from 138 to 155 hp.

Nissan has christened the second drive variant e-Power (AutoSprintCH reported) and is basically an electric motor with a gasoline engine as a range extender. This makes range anxiety a thing of the past.

The Qashqai is driven via the front wheels and exclusively by an electric motor that produces 187 hp. The gasoline engine, which consistently runs in the optimum performance window to save fuel, does not drive the Qashqai itself, but only recharges the battery when needed.

6-speed manual transmission or new Xtronic automatic transmission
While a 1.2-liter gasoline engine is responsible for turbocharging in Japan, the European version, which is scheduled to be at dealerships from summer 2021, will be fed by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.

The variety of powertrains meets every customer requirement: the Qashqai comes in a choice of 2WD or 4WD, with a 6-speed manual transmission or a new Xtronic automatic, as well as the electric e-Power drive,

The Swiss prices have not yet been determined.

Nissan offers the Qashqai in eleven body colors. In addition, there are five options for two-tone paint finishes.
