Nissan: E-Qashqai gets energy at the tap 🎥
In the new e-Power powertrain of the Nissan Qashqai, a gasoline engine generates electricity for the electric drive. Range anxiety and long charging times therefore need not be feared with the hybrid.
The new edition of the Nissan Qashqai brings the e-Power hybrid drive to Europe for the first time. With this hybrid drive, which was introduced in Japan several years ago in the Note e-Power model, you always drive electrically but only fill up with gasoline.
An electric car that doesn't need to be plugged in is, according to Nissan strategists, "an important milestone in the Nissan brand's electrification strategy." After all, many car users still don't have the option of charging at home.
Powerful turbo engine with 158 hp
In the e-Power system, a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with a maximum output of 116 kW (158 hp) generates the electricity for the 140 kW synchronous machine that drives the front wheels. Thanks to its variable compression ratio, the three-cylinder engine always generates electricity with optimum efficiency, which is supplied to the battery and the electric motor via the inverter depending on the driving situation.
However, there is no direct drive-through to the Qashqai's drive wheels. Since the wheels are always driven by the electric motor alone, this concept offers a pleasant and relaxed driving experience -¬ just like in a pure battery electric car. Nissan's development engineers have also ensured with the Linear Tune system that the gasoline engine speed is always in line with the speed.
Power and engine sound are therefore not decoupled as in other hybrid concepts. However, the use of the gasoline engine is hardly noticeable in normal traffic on the road anyway.
Driving in traffic jams with only one pedal
In driving mode, the car takes over drive management automatically; the driver only has the option of adjusting the driving mode or driving exclusively electric in EV mode for short distances.
With the e-pedal selection, it can opt for 1-pedal driving in stop-and-go traffic. The Qashqai then brakes at 0.2 g to walking speed when the gas pedal is released, but not to a complete stop.
The Qashqai e-Power will be launched in September, prices have not yet been set.
