New Compass from July at the garages
JEEP For 76 years now, the Jeep name has stood for all-wheel-drive vehicles that have evolved from classic utility vehicles for soldiers and farmers to comfort-oriented models. Now Jeep is rolling out the Compass as an alternative in the competitive crossover class. The design obviously borrows from the Jeep Cherokee. The design obviously borrows from the Jeep Cherokee. The front end in particular is strongly reminiscent of its big brother. With a length of 4.39 meters, the Compass corresponds to the usual dimensions in this class. The instruments are clearly arranged, and the touch-sensitive screen can be used to control the most important things about driving, including the connectivity offerings.
First driving impression
On the road, the Compass is a comfortable family car in which the driver and passengers enjoy the good visibility and the sliding glass roof, which is available at extra cost. On less well-maintained and winding back roads, the Compass remains reassuringly on course.
Fit on any surface
A Jeep is and always will be a Jeep - that also applies to the Compass, which still digs through where its boulevard rivals don't even dare to go. This is thanks to the two all-wheel drive systems, Active Drive and Active Low, which - if needed - can direct 100 percent of the available torque to a single wheel. Both systems are controlled via the "Selec-Terrain System," which allows up to five settings (Auto, Snow, Sand, Mud or Rock).
Diesel and gasoline available
In terms of powertrains, Jeep offers two 1.4-liter gasoline engines with 140 hp with a six-speed manual transmission mated to front-wheel drive, and as a MultiAir2 turbo with 170 hp and nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The diesel faction consists of a two-liter engine in two power levels, with either 140 hp or 170 hp being pounded onto the road.
Swiss prices are fixed
The Compass will be available at Swiss Jeep dealers from July 8. Prices start at 30,000 Swiss francs for the basic Longitude version with front-wheel drive, 140 hp and six-speed manual transmission and end at 45,400 Swiss francs for the Trailhawk with the most powerful diesel engine, all-wheel drive and nine-speed automatic transmission.
