Mitsubishi: This is the Space 2020 🎥

The striking yellow paintwork in particular matches the striking character of the new Space Star.

With a length of 3.85 meters, the Space Star has grown by around five centimeters, but this does not benefit the occupants. The increase is primarily due to safety measures such as improved pedestrian protection.

The wheelbase remains unchanged at 2.45 meters. As before, there is enough room for four adults. The compact car is approved for five occupants, but then you have to sit close together in the back seat.

Extensive basic equipment
The engineers gave the small car the same two three-cylinder engines as before. The 1.0-liter version produces 71 hp and the 1.2-liter engine 80 hp.

Today, Mitsubishi is charging at least 9950 Swiss francs for the well-equipped city car. Among other things, light and rain sensor, air conditioning and electrically operated window lifters are already included in the basic version.

Against surcharge CVT automatic
The more powerful engine was available for the first test drives. In the top version, it is set in motion via a start button and shows that the power is completely sufficient for the city runabout.

After starting, the three-cylinder engine is acoustically restrained compared to its peers. Because the engine has to manage without turbo assistance, the gearshift lever (a continuously variable CVT automatic is available for an additional charge) often comes into play during brisk driving, and when the gears are then turned down, the number of cylinders becomes noticeable, but without becoming unpleasant.

It takes 12.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h, and the top speed is reached at 180 km/h. Mitsubishi quotes fuel consumption at 4.5 liters for the 1.0-liter and 4.6 to 4.7 liters for the 1.2-liter engine. These are the manufacturer's figures.

Handy companion in the city
The easy handling and practical turning circle of 9.20 meters make the small car a handy companion in the city. The low weight of 935 to 980 kilograms contributes to a thoroughly nimble driving experience, which is supported by the comfortably designed chassis also inherited from the predecessor.

Valuable appearance in the interior
The new materials for the pleasantly contoured seats and the carbon patterns that replace the piano lacquer look give the car a valuable appearance. Of course, Mitsubishi's smallest is also equipped with today's standard connectivity solutions.

Depending on the variant, the safety package includes a rear-end collision warning system with pedestrian detection including emergency brake assist, lane departure warning, high beam assist and a rear view camera. Smartphone apps can be integrated via the centrally located screen.

Base model already with air conditioning
With its base price starting at 9950 Swiss francs, the Space Star Entry is one of the most affordable representatives of its class. The equipment includes airbags on the front, side and front head, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, hill start assist, electrically operated front windows, air conditioning, sensors for light and rain and a multi-information display.

The next version up, Pure, also with 71 hp from 10,950 Swiss francs, offers the following accessories in addition to the base model: instrument cluster in carbon look, radio DAB+, USB port, central locking with remote control, luggage compartment cover and lighting, automatic start-stop, power rear windows, preparation for trailer coupling, taillights with LED technology and door inserts in carbon look and fabric.

The last four positions are available in the Pure with 1.2 liter displacement, 80 hp and CVT transmission. Either way, the new little one is an automotive grab bag when it comes to price.
