Mercedes: More power for GLA 45 models

FULL POWER AHEAD Race track or weekend trip - the new GLA 45 4Matic+ and the S version master a number of disciplines and offer plenty of driving dynamics. No large-series four-cylinder has ever been more powerful. The 2.0-liter engine in both models is the most powerful four-cylinder turbo engine produced in large-scale production. GLA 45
The base model Mercedes GLA 45 4Matic+ offers more power than its predecessor with 387 hp.

The 2.0-liter engine in both models is the most powerful four-cylinder turbo engine produced in large-scale production. It is available in two power and torque levels. Even the base model offers more power than its predecessor with 387 hp. With 421 hp, the S variant moves up into higher vehicle classes.

Turbo engine with maximum power
The completely newly developed Mercedes-AMG 2.0-liter engine outperforms its predecessor by 40 hp in both power levels: 421 hp in the S model and 387 hp in the basic version. The maximum torque has also increased from 475 to up to 500 Newton meters.

The compact sports car accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, the base model in 4.4 seconds. The top speed of the base model is limited to 250 km/h, while the S model can reach speeds of up to 270 km/h ex works.

Significantly improved air flow
Compared to the transversely mounted four-cylinder engine in the 35 models, the 45 engine is rotated 180 degrees around the vertical axis. The turbocharger and exhaust manifold are located at the rear on the side of the bulkhead facing the interior, while the intake system is positioned at the front.

This layout enables the front design to be as flat as possible and therefore aerodynamically advantageous. In addition, improved air routing with shorter paths and fewer deflections was achieved on both the intake and exhaust sides.

The Mercedes and AMG genes are particularly evident in the design of the dashboard.

Two-stage fuel injection
For the first time, the four-cylinder has a two-stage fuel injection system. In the first stage, particularly fast and precise piezo injectors deliver the fuel into the combustion chambers at a pressure of up to 200 bar. This happens several times in some cases and is regulated by the engine control unit as required.

In the second stage, an intake manifold channel injection system with solenoid valves is added. This is required to achieve the engine's high specific output. The electronically controlled fuel supply operates at a pressure of 6.7 bar.

Fast dual-clutch transmission
The ratios of the eight gears of the new AMG dual-clutch transmission have been selected so that the driver experiences spontaneous acceleration at all speeds, combined with fast shift times and appropriate connections when shifting up.

Depending on the selected drive program (AMG Dynamic Select), the driver receives a specific drive setting with different accelerator pedal and gearshift characteristics.

The standard Race Start function enables maximum acceleration from a standing start. Together with the drive sound with partial ignition interruption when shifting up and automatic intermediate throttle function when shifting down, it ensures typical AMG driving pleasure.

But it can also be more efficient: The eco start/stop function is active in the "Comfort" driving program. A "coasting" function can be selected in the "Individual" driving program.

GLA 45
The GLA 45 4Matic+ compact sports car accelerates from 0 to 100 in 4.4 seconds according to the factory.

Fully variable all-wheel drive
The AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive with AMG Torque Control is fully variable. The new rear axle transmission with AMG Torque Control contains two electronically controlled multi-plate clutches, each of which is connected to a rear axle drive shaft.

In this way, the drive power can not only be distributed continuously between the front and rear wheels, but also between the left and right rear wheels.

Driving programs as character default
The characteristics of the all-wheel drive control depend on the drive program or the AMG Dynamics setting. In "Basic" and "Advanced", the 4Matic system is in "Comfort" mode. In "Pro" and "Master" (standard for the S model, included in the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package for the base model), it switches to "Sport" mode.

The Swiss prices are not yet known.
