Mercedes: Seven on a Stromer journey in the EQB 🎥
FAMILY-AWARE The Swabian company's electric range is growing steadily, and Mercedes-Benz is expanding its electric portfolio with the new EQB. The stately SUV carries up to seven people - and does so pleasantly quiet as a whisper.
With 390 or 520 Nm of torque, both models in the EQB range accelerate powerfully.
EQA, EQC, EQE, EQS and EQV. But there are still a few letters missing from the EQ alphabet. Next up is the EQB, a handsome compact SUV with up to three rows of seats and all-wheel drive.
The EQB is unmistakably based on the GLB, from which it borrows the proportions, the angular basic design and the clever use of space. Instead of the radiator grille, the Stromer has a black panel with a large star on it - apart from that, the EQB could also be a slightly refreshed GLB.
Optionally also with third row of seats
This also applies to the interior. The EQB has the familiar widescreen cockpit, in which the digital instrument cluster is combined with the infotainment screen to form one wide element. Like the GLB, the EQB is optionally available with a third row of seats, which is surprising given the vehicle's length of 4.68 meters. The rearmost seats are only suitable as child or emergency seats at best.
Asynchronous motor on the front axle
The EQB is offered in the 300 4Matic and 350 4Matic variants. Both have an asynchronous motor on the front axle and a permanently excited synchronous machine on the rear axle. To optimize fuel consumption, the rear engine drives as often as possible, with the front engine only being switched on when required.
Both variants are equipped with a 66.5 kWh battery that is said to last for around 420 kilometers. Recharging takes place at a maximum of 100 kW at the fast charging station - this fills the battery from 10 to 80 percent in half an hour.
Up to 100 k/h in just a few seconds
The EQB 300 4Matic produces 168 kW (228 hp), the 350 4Matic 215 kW (292 hp) - that's enough for a sprint time of 8 and 6.2 seconds respectively to 100 km/h. Both variants have enough power: With 390 and 520 Nm of torque, both models accelerate powerfully, with the more powerful variant paying off particularly in intermediate sprints at cross-country speeds.
Armada of assistance systems
The EQB is a pleasant companion on the road. It rolls smoothly, is comfortably tuned, and is also very safe thanks to an armada of assistance systems - a successful overall package that is likely to meet with approval in the market. The range of electric family cars is still limited, and the Mercedes EQB is well positioned.
