Mercedes-AMG: GT as 4-door and up to 639 hp

THREE CARS IN ONE Doing one thing and not leaving the other. That's an interesting way to play in automotive engineering, too. Mercedes-AMG brings the GT 4-door as an example of this. Starting at 124,900 Swiss francs, it gets down to business. With the new GT 4-door, Mercedes-AMG combines coupe, sedan and sports car. The over five-meter-long, four-door and four-seat [...]

Plenty of race despite its heavy weight. The coupe sedan flexes its muscles on the racetrack. As a touring sedan, the GT 4-door is elegant. The 4-door models will be available from December.

With the new GT 4-door, Mercedes-AMG combines coupe, sedan and sports car. Like the familiar two-door GT, the over five-meter-long, four-door, four-seat newcomer comes with a lush engine, but not a transaxle design. Like the big Mercedes models, its 9-speed automatic transmission is directly linked to the engine.

Panamericana grille and big star
Externally, the large GT is immediately recognizable as an AMG product with its Panamericana radiator grille and large star. With its coupe-like silhouette and four doors, however, the car looks more like an elegant touring sedan. Leather, Alcantara and carbon trim create a sporty, luxurious ambience inside. Sports seats in the front and individual seats in the rear guarantee optimum seating comfort.

Variable damping and air suspension
The range comprises five drive variants. The inline six-cylinder GT 43 and GT 53 with 48-volt hybrid modules produce 367 and 435 hp and can be boosted with electric power if required. The 4-liter V8 biturbo engine in the GT 63 and GT 63 S models delivers 585 and 639 hp respectively. With 800 and 900 Nm of torque, they are naturally capable of mastering any driving situation on public roads. At the same time - in the appropriate driving mode - comfort is also limousine-like thanks to variable damping and air suspension.

Fine materials and a large multimedia display dominate the interior. The driving dynamics control can be set on the steering wheel. The price for the top model is a hefty 220,900 Swiss francs.

From standstill to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds
However, the uninhibited step on the gas pedal should only be dared on the race track. There the coupé, which weighs more than two tons, accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds with a beguiling roar from the exhaust, and - if the track allows it - pulls on up to 315 km/h. With the AMG Dynamics driving dynamics control system, throttle response and shift speed become increasingly quicker up to Race driving mode, and the variable all-wheel drive and ESP are then set up for extreme sportiness. Rear-wheel steering, optional in the 6-cylinder variants and standard in the V8 models, makes the vehicle easier to maneuver in low-speed traffic and more agile at higher speeds. All models are equipped with 4Matic as standard.
