At 4.40 meters long, the CX-30 is no bigger than a compact car, but its eye-catching plastic cladding and body height of 1.54 meters give it a stately appearance.
Anyone who opens the electrically operated tailgate is amazed at the convenient access. Its width and the loading height of 73 centimeters make the CX-30 a vehicle for transport of all kinds. 430 liters of trunk space are at least usable, and 1403 liters are available after folding the rear seat backs.
Head-up display in the windshield
The pleasing proportions and sharply accentuated front reveal the hallmarks of Kodo design, while the pronounced front overhang also unquestionably identifies the car as a member of the family.
Not only does the car share the floor assembly with the Mazda3, but the interior is also largely modeled on its compact brother. A new feature is the head-up display, which dispenses with a retractable reflective screen and projects directly into the windshield. It has a clean and easy-to-read focus.
There is enough space on all seats
Since the CX-30 is about twelve centimeters longer than the 3 Series, you can enjoy a good feeling of space in all seats. Knee and headroom are sufficient even for those sitting in the back. In the cockpit and elsewhere around the occupants, soft and foamed upholstery and trim create a pleasant ambience.
Quiet and relaxed driving experience
The SPCCI engine with 180 hp already introduced in the 3 Series is a mixture of gasoline and diesel engine. The abbreviation stands for "Spark Controlled Compression Ignition". Mazda describes the unit as the first production gasoline engine to initiate combustion like a diesel engine using compression ignition.
The developers expect the Skyactiv-X technology with 6-speed transmission to reduce fuel consumption by between 15 and 20 percent. According to factory specifications, the CX-30 should get by on 5.9 liters of premium per 100 kilometers. The 6-speed automatic Skyactive-Drive is available as an option. The smooth running and revving of the 180 hp engine give no cause for criticism.
The successful noise insulation in the CX-30 contributes to a quiet and relaxed driving experience. The new engine will complement the CX-30 range from October this year.
24V mild hybrid system on board
As an alternative to the Skyactiv-X, there is the two-liter gasoline engine Skyactiv-G with 122 hp, which like the CX-30 can be ordered with front- or all-wheel drive. In both cases, a 24V mild hybrid system is on board.
The starter-generator, which is connected to the crankshaft via a belt drive, produces 4.8 kW (6.5 hp) of power, which can be additionally called up during acceleration. This is particularly noticeable during fast sprints at traffic lights.
Prices start at 29,650 francs for the Skyactiv-G Ambition model with front-wheel drive and 122 hp.
