The Lotus Elise offers a lot of driving fun. The car only needs electronics for the engine start and the alternator.

The large community of fans of the small English sports car brand Lotus is disappointed to learn that the convertible Elise and the coupe Exige have reached the end of their life cycle.

Production will soon come to an end. It marks the end of the era of the mid-engine two-seaters, which stood for the lightweight design philosophy of designer Colin Chapman like hardly any other sports car.

1.8-liter four-cylinder engine from Toyota
25 years after the launch of the Elise and 21 years after the Exige coupe, Lotus is now bringing five stunning special editions to close.

Naturally, all are equipped with the basic 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine from Toyota, but beefed up in England with turbocharging and numerous modifications.

Maximum outputs of 402, 426 and 436 hp
The Final Editions of the Elise (gallery above), Sport 240 and Cup 250 produce 243 and 248 hp respectively at 7200 rpm and weigh just 922 and 931 kilograms.

The Exige Final Edition model (gallery below) is available in Sport 390, Sport 430 and Cup 430 versions. These engines deliver maximum outputs of 402, 426 and 436 hp each at 7000 rpm. The vehicle weight amounts to little more than 1100 kilograms.

Production of the Evora also ends this year
Swiss prices for the Elise special editions are 61,000 and 68,500 Swiss francs, while the Final Editions of the Exige cost 85,200, 106,000 and 136,000 Swiss francs.

The somewhat larger Lotus Evora, which has been part of the English company's model range since 2009 with a 3.5-liter V6 mid-engine, is also nearing the end of its life. A special model of this model is also likely to be launched.
