The Toyota luxury brand Lexus was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1989. While it still bakes rather small rolls in Europe, it looks back on three successful decades in Asia and the USA.
Striking design for front and rear
The most important model in the Lexus range is the RX, which was the first SUV full hybrid model as the RX 450h in 2006. Now the third RX generation, introduced in 2015, appears in a revised edition. Externally, the new model is recognizable by its strikingly redesigned front and rear. The brand's signature diabolo radiator grille gets a new, L-shaped honeycomb insert and a revised frame. Slimline main headlights sharpen the front end, and the L motif is also characteristic of the taillights. The exhaust tips and the underride guard are designed to make the vehicle appear particularly wide.
More dynamics and safety
The facelifted version includes new assistance systems such as the Pre-Crash Safety System or Traffic Sign Recognition, as well as enhanced connectivity technology and Adaptive Highbeam Assist with Blade Scan technology, which significantly increases the illuminated field of vision in front of the car.The powertrain with 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine, three electric motors, planetary CVT transmission and E-Four all-wheel drive has remained unchanged. The self-charging hybrid system delivers a maximum of 313 hp and ensures good performance. Several optimizations have been introduced in the chassis. They make the vehicle even more dynamic and safer when cornering.
Four equipment options are available
The already rich equipment in the Eco base model is joined by three further levels. Additional comfort features are included in the Comfort, and the F-Sport and Excellence versions supplement the equipment in the direction of sport and technology or driving comfort. In terms of price, the new RX models range from 69,200 (450h Eco) to 97,800 francs (450h Excellence). Lexus Switzerland Director Christian Wellauer and his team plan to put around 400 units of the new RX 450h on the road next year - as an alternative to the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
