Lexus: The UX 300e comes to the plug

PREMIERE Until now, Toyota has relied solely on hybrid technology and fuel cell drive systems. Now a change of course is on the horizon. UX 300e
Lexus specifies charging times for the new UX 300e of between eight and 24 hours.

The Lexus UX 300e is the first result of the Lexus electrified model strategy and is distinguished from the conventionally powered version by its aerodynamic wheels and underbody cover.

The 54-kWh battery, which is equipped with air cooling, is located under the car's floor, which translates into a low center of gravity and superior handling. Lexus promises a range of around 320 kilometers.

From zero to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds
Drive is provided by a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor, which enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The top speed is reached at 160 km/h.

Thanks to the 300 Nm of torque available from the start, the UX 300e can be moved in a sporty manner and also provides sufficient power for sprinting.

Driving dynamics control offers a lot of fun
Thanks to the low center of gravity and the stiffeners for the battery mounts, driving fun is not neglected either, as chief engineer Takashi Watanabe had in mind.

The new driving dynamics control system, which works precisely, helps here. As a result, the UX 300e, which weighs around 1.8 tons, feels extremely comfortable even on winding back roads and does not present its driver with any problems.

Fast charging in 50 minutes as an option
In order not to cause too many fines, it is worth taking a regular look at the speed indicator, because thanks to the low noise development, the Lexus is easily faster than allowed.

For those who miss the sound of an engine, the developers have created an artificial engine sound. Lexus promises a consumption of 17.1 kWh per 100 kilometers. Lexus grants a warranty of ten years or one million kilometers for the battery.

Lexus states charging times of between eight and 24 hours. As a fast charging option, the Japanese manufacturer offers the Chademo standard, which is rather rare in Europe and charges the battery within 50 minutes. The price list for the Lexus UX 300e starts at 49,900 francs.
