Lexus: LBX city car for young, urban Europeans 🎥
COMPACT AND MUSCULOUS In the design of the new LBX, Lexus takes its cue from European tastes. The style is aimed at customers who appreciate premium quality combined with a more casual appearance.
Lexus rewrote its own rules when developing the LBX small urban crossover - also to rethink some of the most familiar design conventions. The SUV-typical look, for example, was partly inspired by the shape of the traditional Japanese kagami mochi rice cake.
The team responsible for the development was asked to further develop the Next Chapter design principles that have also characterized the NX, RX and RZ models. The aim was to create a vehicle with a strong visual appeal young, urban Europeans. You should feel comfortable in this Lexus, even in jeans and sneakers.
Front grille now without frame
Nothing makes the designers' intentions clearer than the new front design of the LBX. The spindle grille, a characteristic feature of all Lexus models for more than ten years, has been reinterpreted and blends harmoniously into the bodywork as a smaller and frameless unit. Thanks to the compact hybrid engine, the front edge of the hood could be pulled down to below the height of the headlights.
In the side view, the classic elements are clearly recognizable: short overhangs that ensure agile handling, and powerfully flared front and rear fenders. The taut area around the rear doors proved to be one of the biggest challenges, but it is a crucial element for the vehicle's presence on the road. The large 18-inch wheels are striking.
Handling and fuel efficiency
But the design is not only about an appealing exterior. Details are also used everywhere to achieve good aerodynamics. This in turn is an important factor for stable handling and optimum fuel efficiency. The roof, the gate-shaped spoiler and the tail light are designed so that the air flows evenly over the vehicle.
To show off the LBX's lines to their best advantage, Lexus offers a choice of exterior paint finishes as well as a two-tone paint scheme with a black roof and black pillars for contrast. The LBX will also be launched in Switzerland in January next year.
