The Land Rover Defender has been subjected to tough tests in heat, freezing cold around the world.
The range now offers a three-door body with a shorter wheelbase, compact dimensions and minimal body overhangs, which benefit it particularly off-road. Both variants of the new Defender share the same profile as the most rugged and capable Land Rover ever - equipped with 21st century technologies.
While the first models of the Defender 110 will be delivered to customers during the spring, the market launch of the new Defender 90 will take place in the summer.
Over one million interested
Last September, the new Land Rover Defender celebrated its world premiere at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main. Since then, Land Rover has seen enormous demand for the completely redeveloped latest generation of the all-wheel-drive legend.
Over a million potential buyers have configured a Defender on the Land Rover website in recent months. More than half of them chose one of the four accessory packages on offer.
Equipment packages as desired
The 4×4 specialists from the UK are offering a choice of Explorer Pack, Adventure Pack, Country Pack and Urban Pack option packages for the new Defender. Each of the four alternatives gives the customer the opportunity to individualize the Defender according to personal wishes and to suit the respective lifestyle.
Striking body styling
The roots of the new Defender go back to the original Land Rover of 1948: the legendary Series I, which established the British all-wheel-drive brand in the first place.
The latest generation was developed from scratch - it combines characteristic body styling, best 4×4 features, modern technologies and connectivity with a wide range of variants,.
Independent power supply
Land Rover is the first model series to equip its iconic SUV with the new Pivi Pro infotainment system. Among other things, it features consistently intuitive operation. What's more, thanks to its self-contained power supply in the form of a battery, Pivi Pro is "always-on", i.e. ready and connected at all times.
Petrol or diesel to choose from
At launch, the Defender 90 will feature the D200 and D240 diesel engines with 200 or 240 hp: advanced 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines that use sequential turbocharger technology with two superchargers to deliver 430 Nm of torque each as maximum.
The gasoline engines are offered with the P300 and P400 engines with 300 or 400 hp.
Finally, the new Defender is also available as a mild hybrid. Here, an inline six-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters works under the hood. It has a twin-scroll turbocharger and an electrically driven 48-volt compressor. An integrated belt-driven starter-generator replaces the starter motor and supports the gasoline engine.
The energy normally lost during braking or deceleration is recovered here and fed to a 48-volt lithium-ion battery. The Defender then receives additional thrust when starting off or accelerating. In total, the system produces 400 hp and 550 Nm of maximum torque.
Recommended prices for the new Defender 90 start at 57,000 francs. The Defender 110 is available from 64,000 Swiss francs.
